Dermofasciectomy

I am starting this new topic to make dermofasciectomy easier to find. Most of our discussion, initiated by Bob, is actually under the topic "ARTIST AND WRITER".

Here is a list of literature from an earlier post:

Bob, just in case you haven't seen some of them yet and also for compiling a list, here are some papers on dermofasciectomy that also review longer term effects. They are all in favour of dermofasciectomy though the first one might indicate enhanced extension to other areas. But the enhanced extension is unsure due to missing comparative data from other techniques and it might also depend on the size of the skin graft.

C. Kelly and J. Varian "Dermofasciectomy: a long term review" Ann Chir Main Memb Super 11 (1992) p 381-2

T. M. Brotherston et al. "Long term follow-up of dermofasciectomy for Dupuytren's contracture" Br J Plast Surg 47 (1994) p 440-3

M. A. Tonkin et al. "Dupuytren's contracture: a comparative study of fasciectomy and dermofasciectomy in one hundred patients" J Hand Surg [Br] 9 (1984) p 156-62

P. N. Hall et al. "Skin replacement in Dupuytren's disease" J Hand Surg [Br] 22 (1997) p 193-7

A. E. Searle and A. M. Logan "A mid-term review of the results of dermofasciectomy for Dupuytren's disease" Ann Chir Main Memb Super 11 (1992) p 375-80

and, of course,

L. D. Ketchum and F. P. Hixson "Dermofasciectomy and full-thickness grafts in the treatment of Dupuytren's contracture" J Hand Surg [Am] 12 (1987) p 659-64.

Wolfgang:

I think it's a great idea to put the discussion under a more logical Topic.

Thanks.

It was my intention to put together a list of Internet Links to the Full Text of the dermofasciectomy articles which Wolfgang listed as well as other that I wished to add. The problem is that I can not find links to the Full Text. The www.PubMed.gov site has abstracts and citations, but the full text is unavailable. You must be a subscriber to the journal organizations to access the entire text.

Does anyone have suggestions on how the average guy might obtain the full text without having to joining and paying the individual organizations/Journals for the articles? Maybe I'm asking for the moon, but if there is a way to do this, I would like to know how it can be done. I could probably request my doctor to get me printed copies, but that doesn't help anyone else.

Thanks,
Bob B.

Re: Dermofasciectomy

Bob, though some journals publish the full text on the Internet most of them only publish abstracts because they need to make money from selling their journals. Sometimes a versatile way to get the full article is to write to the author and ask for a re-print. Most authors have re-prints available. That still doesn't entitle you to put the article on the Internet yourself but at least you will be able to read it.

Thanks Wolfgang. That is pretty much what I thought, but it never hurts to ask.

I was also thinking along the lines of requesting the authors and publishers to permit specific (non-current issue) Dupuytren's articles to be posted on this Dupuytren's site rather than open ended access. If the author/publisher were to permit this, is there space available on this site where this could be done? Does anyone know if this idea has been pursued elsewhere.

Bob, technically it wouldn't be a problem to provide on our web site a list downloadable, full text literature. I am not sure whether the publishing companies would agree to. We got permisson from e.g. Elsevier to publish a specific diagram about geographic distribution of Duputren but I imagine they would be reluctant to provide full text copies for general distribution. Yet we have never tried.

Re: Dermofasciectomy

Hi,
This link, copied and pasted into the browser gives access to 290 full-text articles on Dupuytren's. Most of these are historical but can have some use!

Link

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pmc&;;;cmd=search&term=dupuytren's

As I come across more full-text links, if any, I will post them under the topic Medical Publicaitons on this forum

Link

http://www.dupuytren-online.info/Forum_E...php?board=0&;thema=29

If any members of this site come across full-text articles, please copy and paste the link under Medical Publications so we have one spot on the forum for this sort of reading and research!

Dr. Denkler:

Thanks for your input.

It's good to know that you're staying with us on our "new" Forum.

We all value your continuing efforts on our behalf.

Mark D.

PS: The N.A. you did on my right hand (ring-finger; PIP joint) last August is holding up well. You're terrific! My wife Julie sends her best too.
