Developing RSD symptoms

Hello,

I recently wrote in to this forum about my hand being operated on too soon for Dup. Due to the trauma suffered from surgery to my right hand I have been experiencing %95 percent of the symptoms associated with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy: burning sensation (not severe), temperature changes in hand, coolness feeling in hand, color changes (sometimes purple and blue in palm), swelling of hand and palm and joint stiffness in ring finger on knuckle that is part of my palm. The only thing I'm not experiencing is the excruciating pain that most times goes along with the neurological damage. As you can imagine, I am extremely concerned.

My question is does any one know of a good doctor or neurologist in Northern Germany (I live 30 minutes south of Hamburg) that can deal with this syndrome.

Any recommendations are highly appreciated.

Thank you,

Marks

Re: Developing RSD symptoms

Hi Mark, it might not be as bad as it sounds and just be the healing process combined with swelling that might take a while. How about asking for a recommendation in the German forum?

Re: Developing RSD symptoms

Hi Wolfgang,

Sorry to get back so late to your response. Been busy with therapy/legal issues. I hope my symptoms are just a combination of the surgery and swelling. But, a respected hand facility in nortern Germany told me I had a mild case of CRPS, and they also believe the scar tissue is having an effect on my nerves in my palm. So, they gave me a compression band to wear at night, I go to ergotherapy, physical therapy, electric therapy, hot and cold soaks and stretching at home, and on the recommendation from Dr. Denkler-who is very nice and generous with his time--also told me to get a prescription for steroids. So, I'm taking those too. Things seem to be getting better, but there are days when it goes backwards and I get numb in my forearm and/or fingers, just not normal. Anyway, thanks Wofgang, and I'll try the German version of this website as well to get some help.

Thanks again,

Mark

Re: Developing RSD symptoms

Hi Folks,

I had OS for Dup's Feb 28. (mainly for node removal, 5th finger, bet. MP & PIP - no cords).

After 8 weeks the node area remains hard with noticeable edema. 5th continues to want to contract, incapable of making a fist or achieving good extension. Hypertrophic scarring was initially noted, but now CHS is slightly concerned about some level of RSD. (just great)

No pain nor bizarre color changes, heat level isn't real noticeable, but in higher ambient temps, the hand starts to feel warm vs other one. Of course a lot of PT is happening to the hand so maybe some of that is causal? Nodes developing in 4th finger right next to the z-plasty but CHS feels that may be a reaction to OS rather than fast-onset Dup's.

So super. A stellate ganglion block isn't what I had in mind, so has anyone with mild RSD (no pain) been able to just work through it?

Does anyone feel a second opinion from Dr. Denkler in these matters would help?
