    		Dupuytren's contracture

    hi just wondered if anyone could help i have Dupuytren's contracture and on the internet i have found quite a bit of info about this condition but to be honest i was wondering what makes Dupuytren's contracture worse as i cant seem to find anything
    thanks for taking the time to read this will look forward to any replies..

    The most common thing that makes Dupuytren's worse is stressing the condition, e.g. tearing tissue in an injury. Any abnormal stressors can make Dupuytren's worse.

    I don't think it's clear why Dupuytrens advances quickly in some people and not in others. There does appear to be a genetic link. There are reports of injury, trauma, ongoing stress on the hands making the condition worse. Also of surgery, not for Dupuytrens, appearing to promote new nodules. You would be advised to cushion your hands if using them for work or sports, and avoid if possible many of the risk factors discussed elsewhere on this site, such as Glucosamine, smoking, excess alcohol, some medication drugs, and so on.

    It's really a mysterious disease. I know of a case where the one finger of a patient took about 10 years to contract and another finger on the other hand of the same patient (10 years later, without accident and in hte not dominant hand) contracted in less than a year. Why? No idea. Even the doctor, an expert in Dupuytren's was amazed and could not think of an explanation for this difference. I guess not only everyone is different but also every finger ... Though that does not eliminate the influences that Spanishbuddha mentioned. A strange disease.
