Re: FIXXGLOVE

Interesting. I've read from others that it's almost a permanent thing vs 14 days. Given everything I've read, and my results thus far, I am going to continue wearing mine. I'd suggest you research it more before you make the decision to stop wearing it.

Would love to hear other opinions.

Hi Ed. My opinion based on my own experience is that it should be sufficient to wear a splint/glove during the night, that you can even skip a night from time to time when wearing it is not convenient and that there is in general no need to "handicap" oneself any more than that or to run the risk of stiffening one's finger joints. After all, a hand in a stiffened glove seems even less useful in daily life than a hand wih bent fingers.

I started wearing mine only six months after my NA/PNF procedure when I actually started to feel a contracture again, and my finger is basically straight. I just cannot overextend it, but that is due to the cord still being present.

Thanks Stef. That's pretty much what I've been doing as well. I can't imagine stopping after 14 days.

Re: FIXXGLOVE

Hi I hope I have not added any confusion about wearing a night splint. Stefan has explained the current thinking on that topic.
The 14 days only applies to stretching the joint after NA. ie One can whilst watching TV sit on a soft surface and also sit on the affected hand to exert pressure to straighten the joint for short periods of time . After 14 days one should not add force to straighten the joint. The old thinking was to stretch the hand on a flat surface before any surgery to try to reduce the contraction.

I've had a few different type of splints made. I need splints for both index fingers. Last Year I tried the FixxGlove and they are not suitable to wear on both hands at the same time. Most patients with Dupuytren's have the contraction to the ring and little Pinkie. It is hard to find splints for use on the index finger.
Dr Meinel has made two slide on splints ,which allow me to grip with my thumb and middle finger whilst wearing the splint.
They are light and made from Bolus Pellets 703011/1 from Orfit Industries with the product available worldwide. With some help ,one could make your own splint as the product is only added to hot water and shaped. Anybody interested should check out the product.

Re: FIXXGLOVE

Well it's been 6 months since my last NA procedure. "Normally" I'd be heading to the dr for another NA as this has been what I've done for the past 2 years. Because I've been wearing the FIXXGlove my finger is straight!! Proof this works. I can't tell you how happy this makes me. All I do is wear it to bed. I will do this indefinetley.

I hope everyone who has this disease reads this and understands this. I can't believe this isn't on the front page of this forum. This disease, while not curable, is controllable. I wish I would have known this. It would have saved me pain and money.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have started wearing this the minute my finger started to bend. Or right after my first NA procedure.

Again, I hope everyone who has the disease understands this!!!!!!! I sure didn't.

I feel much the same way, Ed. Just a couple of hours ago I was examining my hand straightened by NA/PNF, kept straight by my make-shift night splint glove (http://www.dupuytren-online.info/Forum_E...int-0_2023.html) and with fewer and smaller nodules and cords after radiotherapy. Very pleased that I have been able to keep it in check for almost two years now and that I discovered splinting just in time when the cord was pulling on the pinky again just six months after the NA/PNF procedure.

I was surprised why in spite of my research and regular reading here I had not come across the potential impact of splinting earlier, so that I could have started right after the NA/PNF at the latest. Today I would recommend to use a night splint as soon as a finger starts to bend, to prevent even NA/PNF or collagenase.

I agree that splinting should be given a prominent place on this website, probably right in the "Treatment" menu item, although I can't really say where it would fit best. Perhaps also on the start page, http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytrens_contracture.html.

Re: FIXXGLOVE

Given my results, I'd have a READ THIS FIRST section. I did quite a bit of research on this disease and went down the Xiaflex and multiple NA procedure road. Thank God I avoided full surgery. No one told me that splinting would help.

This should be the way this disease is handled period!

I'd be interested to know if there's anyone who has used a splint with poor results.

Re: FIXXGLOVE

The value of splinting is still controversial. It seems to me that it helps as long as you are wearing the splint at night. Once you stop wearing it, the contrcature can come back quickly.

At the Groningen conference there were several sessions targeted on controversial subjects, one was splinting. If you are intersted, you can watch the videos on http://www.dupuytrensymposium.com/program_2015.php . The controversy on splinting is in session 3.

Re: FIXXGLOVE

Wolfgang

Thanks for the video link. I watched and and can tell you the for me I whole heartedly disagree. It's working. Of course I can't compare it to what they call hand therapy because I don't have that and am not sure what all that entails.

For me there's no doubt that it works. And to be perfectly clear it is NOT a cure. It simply keeps my finger from contracting as long as I wear it. I'm certain if I stopped it would indeed contract.

So if you don't mind wearing a splint / glove at night to avoid further contracture and hence money & pain, give it a shot.

If really like to hear from anyone who has tried a FIXXGlove and has not had success.
