Fixxglove - Outer finger stays or Inner finger stays?

I was wondering if I should get the fixxglove with the 3 aluminum insertable finger stays on the outside of the glove, OR with the 3 finger stays on the inside of the gloves? ... in an attempt to help prevent my hand and fingers from curling.

Thanks for your advise. My left hand is just beginning to get Dupuytrens, and the pinkie is starting to bend, with big giant pea size bump in first joint near the hand, and lots of thickness beginning on the hand near pinkie.

I want to try a fixxglove to wear at night to help prevent my left fingers from getting like my right hand (advanced, progressed 3 finger bends).

Thank you for advise.

It wouldn't hurt to try the Fixxglove. Depending on which fingers are curling that would be the type for you.
I wear the Fixxglove with three fingers in the outer portion of the glove splint every night. The glove splint is very comfortable & easy to wear. I have no contracting occurring with first finger or thumb. Although I have severe arthritis and basically no thumb use at all.
The three aluminum insertable finger stays on the out side inserted on the outside are very gentle and helpful. There is also a tie to each finger on the glove to help hold the fingers to keep them from separating or bending during sleep. They are made very well made and have a zipper in the palm area and Velcro on the outter wrist for a snug adjustable fit.

You also might think about xiaflex injections on your right fingers on your right hand and to reduce the nodgule on your pinky ask about a cortisone injection. Xiaflex opened my closed pinky & forefinger and cortizone helped decrease the size and pain from the nodgules at the base of the pinky and forefinger. xiaflex also eliminated all the scar tissue build up from surgery. The surgery was the flare factor that caused the whole hand to begin contracting. RT didn't help but xiaflex really gave me back the use of my hand again.

Always be sure to check with a DD specialist to see what's appropriate for your particular circumstances . As you have experienced this DD is a very fickle disease. What works for one may not for another.

King Regards,
Cherise

Just look it up on the Internet. The different types are sometimes called a dorsal or volar orthosis.

Re: Fixxglove - Outer finger stays or Inner finger stays?

Thank you Cherise, that was helpful.

I just want to find out which would be more effective for my situation, - outer stays, which wouldn't let my hand/fingers not go forward by holding them back? or inner stays, that hopefully won't let my hand/fingers curl by not letting them go forward. Yes, I see there are different types, that is why I ask.

My choice is between the FIxxglove Dorsal (the stays are on the outside) .... or the Fixxglove Volar (the stays on the inside palm side).
Thank you for your experience.

Both are equally effective, it's more a question of comfort. I liked the inside ones better. The outside ones, if not fitted perfectly, might press on the joints.

The outside stays don't press against the joints at all. The stays are over the glove fabric. There is no discomfort in my case. The stays are adjustable too! Pull the stays back slightly over a period of time if you need to add a gradual straightening. When fingers are at a curvature that a splint can help straighten. I did adjust the outer stays for a few months to pull the fingers straighter. Then once acheived replace the position of the stays to the origional position.

Each morning I remove the glove with no pain and very little stiffness with no joint pain. This for me is the easiest way to keep the fingers from contracting than any other splint I have tried. Of course there is permanent damage to my middle joint as it was at a closed position for 2 years while researching what to do after surgery made the DD worse in 2013. Had xiaflex done Feb 2015 to straighten 3 fingers all closed frozen as a result from surgery on only one pinky that slightly had a curve. The thickening of scar tissue also became a issue which xiaflex totally eliminated as well as open all fingers.

I have used many splints made by hand therapist, spring splints and silverring decorative splints, several other mentioned on this site. The easiest & the least hassle splint is the Fixxglove glove with the stays on the outer portion of the glove. A zipper located in the palm area & Velcro around the outter side of the wrist for a snug but not tight fit. Very comfortable .
Fixxglove is a Good way to keep my fingers from contracting again. Even with many nodes in my palm area. That was my choice. Also I always protect my hands while performing tasks.

Hope you find what helps you the best. Perhaps email Fixxglove and ask them ? Sometimes it a search and try method to find what works best in each case.

Kind Regards ,
Cherise

Re: Fixxglove - Outer finger stays or Inner finger stays?

Hi Cali
I recently had 2 splints made for my index fingers by Dr Meinel in Germany. Dr Meinel used a new product from Orfit Industries which is also available in USA. The backing rod extends from the tip of the finger through the palm to near the wrist. The product is a High Precision Thermoplastic Bolus Material. Article 703011/1 (500 gram bag cost about $50 Au.) Google Orfit for further info and application download the pdf . You could experiment and make a splint yourself with the help of another person. The product comes in miniature balls ,which are placed in hot water for a few minutes . (say hand full ) The product gels together and will adhere to the skin. So the helper will wear plastic gloves to apply the product Wear a cotton glove on the appropriate hand for which the splint is to be made. The gel is applied from the top to the finger through the palm onto the surface of the glove. (palm pointing up in passive position -not overstretched )My splint was approximately half and inch thick and some 1 and half inches wide through the palm. One had 2 or 3 minutes working time to apply the product. Smooth out the product so there are no sharp edges. The product will turn white and dries hard as fibreglass adhering to the fabric. Wait until hard and remove the glove. Can be washed and also adjusted with a heat gun or placing back in hot water to adjust the splint. There is an other option to make the splint ,by placing a piece of cotton cloth onto the palm side of the hand. The product is then applied onto the piece of cotton and shaped to the finger and palm. The surrounding cloth is trimmed back leaving a margin to fold back over the bolus product and encase the gel. Using 2 pieces of velco over the finger one can hold the splint in position. This is the option we used and it is easy to apply and remove the splint. Regards.
