Re: Image British Actor (Bill Nighy) who has Dupuytren's
I went and saw Bill's latest film last week (the most exotic Marigold hotel). His dupuytren's is very apparent indeed. By the way the film was great.

Re: Image British Actor (Bill Nighy) who has Dupuytren's
I suggest that the unfortunate thing about Mr. Nighy is that his peculiar sense of "self" is preventing him from pursuing a method of treatment that would actually benefit him quite a lot.
I'm amazed he's let this treatable condition progress this far.

Bill is an incredibly private person. I for one am proud that as a Dups sufferer he gets on with his disabilities and is not making a huge fuss about it. Please also bear inmind when casting thoughts and remarks about the progression of his Dups that you don't know how long he has had this and what treatments were available for him at the time of diagnosis. I don't wish to upset anyone but just my opinions

Re: Image British Actor (Bill Nighy) who has Dupuytren's
Completely agree with ellensmum. If it doesn't bother him then it shouldn't bother anyone else. Forgive me if I'm wrong but this disease seems to affect people in different ways and causes them various problems depending on jobs or hobbies and people prefer some treatments over others. It may be that he has got to the point where he has to have surgery and from what I've read, it's not a popular option! It would be a shame if we all criticized each other for our own choice of treatment etc. So far I've found this forum briliant and the people supportive and full of great advise. I don't think because someone is in the 'public eye' they should be treated any differently.

Re: Image British Actor (Bill Nighy) who has Dupuytren's
I think people have good intentions and want to share what has been helpful to them. I'm glad they do because I've learned so much. It was/is extremely helpful to see what works for others. We can all get over-zealous at times, and need to be aware of when we might be stepping over the boundaries.

Re: Image British Actor (Bill Nighy) who has Dupuytren's
I'm the originator of this post. After posting this, my Dupuytren's became so bad that a finger on each hand was bent just like Bill's, right down tight to my palm. Not only is it tough living with your fingers in that position, I found I HAD to get them operated on. The reason is that when your finger is pulled that tight to your palm(and you can't pry them up )the moisture in between your finger and palm can't dry out. It gets white (like when you take off a band-aid ) and how long can that go on before it causes other problems?I would like to know how Bill lives so long with his fingers in that position without causing more problems. Any way, I'm glad he can do it and has avoided surgery.Best of luck to him and you all.

yankee21,
How was your surgery? That must have been difficult. Often the surgeon will have to do it in a two part surgery. Did the surgery help you?
