Is it wise to use Protons instead of Electrons?

I am asking this questions because I live in Puerto Rico and as you could guess there aren't many Northern Europeans here making this dissease somewhat obscure. It was hard to locate a Radio Oncologist that would treat me but I was told that they use Protons. Is it wise to use Protons for this, isn't it some what unnecessary or more dangerous? Perhaps cost efectiveness? I just don't know if I should just keep digging around until I find one that offers electrons.

Re: Is it wise to use Protons instead of Electrons?

From my understanding, it should be electron radiation and not proton for Dupuytren's.

I plan to have my next RT at Loma Linda University Medical Center. They have a renown proton radiation department, and I asked if it would be proton radiation. Dr. Katerelos said that for Dupuytren's it would be electron. He was clear that it should be and would be electron radiation. I don't know the details about why, but it a medical center that does proton radiation therapy for certain conditions like prostate cancer and they know what they are doing.
