Their finding that PIP joints are more difficult to correct and have higher recurrence is agreement with other publications, including those on collagenase injection. The probability for recurrence depends strongly on age (there must be some advantage in getting older ...). Van Rijssen at al. report that after 3 years 100% of the patients younger than 40 experienced recurrence while only 20% of the patients older than 75 had recurrence, see figure at the bottom of http://www.dupuytren-online.info/NA_side_effects.html .
