Night-time numbness and pain

I have Dupuytren's in both hands, which is not too severe yet - I can almost straighten both hands and the fingers are not yet bent. I consulted a surgeon and Dr Badois who both said it was too early to consider a procedure.

What bothers me is I get cramps and numbness in my hands at night, which often wake me, and are getting worse (although the contractures have remained much the same for two or three years). I think it's due to my fingers naturally curling while I am asleep.

I wonder if anyone else experiences pain while sleeping, and what they do to minimise it??

Thanks, Pedro

Re: Night-time numbness and pain

When I wake up during the night I sometimes have a numb hand, I already considered having CTS (Carpal tunnel syndrom) but the the truth is simpler: while sleeeping I accidentially press my hand in a bad position against e.g. the other arm. When I wake up and relieve my hand the numbness goes away. It has nothing to do with Dupuytren.

In your case the reason might be something completely different. Do you have numbness and pain also during the day? If it is only during the night the reason might actually be some strange position of your hand. If it is also during the day it is probably something else.

Re: Night-time numbness and pain

Some alternative practioners recommend Ginko Biloba and magnesium for symptoms of numbness in the hands at night.Strangley,I found my own symptoms were helped by wearing a bed time hat!!Doesn`t look very elegant and I feel like someone out of a Dicken`s Novel-but heh-whatever does the trick for you.I have found ginko and magnesium helpful too.
