Not sure if I should attempt correction
Firstly, I am having trouble finding a doctor that is willing to work with my insurance. So this has been discouraging.
Then, even though my ring finger on my right hand is nearly bent to my palm and my little finger is half bent I basically function OK. It has taken nearly eight-nine years to get to this point. But now it is starting on my left hand. Ugh! Since I live alone and am very active, after I have read all the recovery time and issues I am just not sure I want to do anything. The recovery may be worse then the dupuytren's.

Hi Lsebert
Sorry to hear your news. A contracture left for too long can be difficult to get completely straight as there can be some irreversible changes around the finger joints. The pinkie is usually worse, so maybe your ring finger will be better. You don’t say which joint(s) are affected and even though you have quite a severe contracture there is the chance with a skilled surgeon, skilled in NA or Xiaflex, they can restore some correction without surgery. So the challenge is finding that surgeon, who takes your insurance, and getting an expert opinion. Surgery can be tough but also very positive with good results and healing; it seems the surgeon makes a lot of the difference. Some people do leave it, but there can be other issues with skin infection, pain, along with the day to day loss of function.
RT may be an option to delay progression in the left hand, if it continues to develop.
Best wishes SB

Re: Not sure if I should attempt correction
Thank you for your response. I will be searching for a doctor that will take my insurance and who is a specialist in this area. Once I speak with them I can make a more educated decision. Thank you.
