Painful Dupuytren's at age 23. What should i do??

My names luke and im 24 years old.
over the last year my dd has progressed rapidly with a large nodule and band in my left palm under my ring finger.

Story goes my pinky finger had a hard life. at 15 a window slammed down on my pinky breaking it.
at 16 i dislocated the same pinky severely where it was facing at a 90 degree angle from the top of my hand.
Playing football ive dislocated it a further two times, all on the same hand.

Just last year i started noticing a small pit forming under my ring finger just below the crease line.
i left it for 6 months before what i thought was a callous started developing above the triangular pit.

Mind you i never splinted my damaged pinky over all these years and it had set in a 45 degree angle for atleast 5 years before this started happening in my palm

My mother squashed her pinky and also got diagnosed with dd at age 40 she never developed a palm nodule or strand though.

I went and saw different surgeons on 3 different occasions all telling me they didnt want to straighten the finger yet.

my thoughts are that because my finger was set at a 45 degree angle i had constantly pulled my pinky up higher than my other fingers to avoid it getting in the way thus putting stress onto the palm of my hand below my pinky and ring finger.

Ive just been pushed back another 3 months to see the surgeon again.I believe its not causing my pinky to contract and that because my finger was already bent it has caused the dd to start and progress rapidily.

Its very painful and im running out of options while im still in the early stages.

What should i do?

im a plumber aswell so i need my hands

appreciate your help :)

Great offer, Stephen! In our survey several patients reported relief by massaging. From the Survey we have no idea how they did it but you are the expert!

Interesting...since my fasciectomy 3 weeks ago, my other hand (left) has flared up. Knuckle pads very red and sore, and a fast-growing nodule at the pinky PIP joint (just as it started in my right side). The physio has suggested warmth and massage for the flare - for pain relief rather than "cure", obviously :) but she didn't say precisely how to massage, or where. Any ideas?

Hi Luciferette. If your nodule is fast growing you may want to consider radiotherapy.

Luke,

I'd suggest you purchase a fixx glove and wear it at night. I've been doing this for a year and my finger is straight.

There is controversy regarding wether it works or not by doctors but I'm living proof it works. I doubt I'm the only one.

I hope you try it and I hope it works.

Check out my post to see what I'm talking about in more detail.

Re: Painful Dupuytren's at age 23. What should i do??

Thankyou everyone for your help, ive never had an extensive massage on my hand however i found that when i massaged it myself the pain relief was temporary, as the nodule and band would start to itch and tighten and continue to do so for the next few days following.
And as for the glove, ive got a cut and moulded hand cast/ finger splint that the hand therapist made up for me. After wearing that for 3 nights, a nodule flared up on the ring finger next to the problem finger.
Is there much of a difference between the moulded splints and the fixed glove? i had to stop wearing the cast as it was aggravating my hand to much.

I had a splint the dr made and stopped wearing it just because it was uncomfortable. The glove was easier to wear at night.

Given your description it's hard to say if it would help. To me it's worth a try given the help you may get.

Good luck and keep us posted.
