Re: Prof Seegenschmiedt, Hamburg visit June 2012 - web page with photos
Larry: Really a great report and help to anybody who likes to consider a visit to HAMBURG!
Your report completely matches with my impression from Prof. Seegenschmiedt: excellent team, excellent medicine and a very knowledgable person, with good manners and quite a lot of humor ...
I was lucky to meet him first in Essen in his former clinic, but have followed him to Hamburg for further follow-up and counselling due to his clinical skills and broad knowledge about this disorder !
Thanks Larry. Do you know which year Prof Seegenschmiedt moved over to Hamburg from Essen?

Re: Prof Seegenschmiedt, Hamburg visit June 2012 - web page with photos
The other day I ran into a local photographer in the UK and asked him to take some better "studio" photos of my hands.
I've put these on another page:
http://www.pushpullsigns.com/dupuytrensearlystagephotos.html
This morning there was a visit to the Hamburg Treatment page by an internet service provider listed as "National Health Service". Maybe there's hope yet for this becoming taken on fully by the NHS in the UK!

You might also have a look at http://www.dupuytren-online.info/radiation_therapy.html. The rule seems to be the earlier you irradiate a nodule the more effective.
Wolfgang
alcook101: Hi Sharon
That's interesting about radiation maybe being less effective on cords. I'm going to put some questions together for Prof Seegensmiedt for when I see him in Sept 2012 and will include this one for clarification.

alcook101: Hi Amy
Thanks for your feedback.
Looking up it seems that your doctor in Virginia had correspondence with Prof S. Was it a similar treatment number of days and break? Did the lead cut out look the same?
Al
Morning Al,
My Dupuytren's presented very differently than yours--and then that of most people, I believe. I developed a cord that was uncomfortable with a very angry nodule appearing about six months later. Within several weeks, two additional cords were bulging.
My first treatment with Dr. Elisabeth Weiss in Richmond, Virginia, was during the first week of May. The protocol seems very similar to that of Dr. S. After corresponding through email and several telephone calls, I arrived on a Monday morning for an initial evaluation. I began RT that afternoon and had five consecutive days of treatment. Dr. Weiss drew an area extending slightly beyond the nodule and cords. They made a plate, which was about one inch thick, and it was similarly placed in the xray machine. My actual radiation lasted for about ten seconds each of the five days. The doctor's usual procedure is to have patients return in six to eight weeks. But, due to our conflicting schedules, I will be returning to Virginia for my second round after 11 weeks.
My early results seem to be quite remarkable. I feel so fortunate that the swelling in my hand is gone, the annoying crampy, crawling feeling has subsided, and no more itching! I'm grateful to so many people on this site for their guidance and encouragement. Dr. Weiss has good experience treating DC with radiation and I'm happy to recommend her practice.

Hi Amy
How long was it till you saw some improvement after the radiation therapy? (I'm not expecting improvement - just a stop in progression, but it would be bonus). It seems as if there was some communication between Dr Weiss and Prof Seegenschmiedt over your case.

Thanks for the comment on the photos. There were 2 sets:
The blurry ones I took and sent to Prof Seegenschmiedt during consultation... http://www.pushpullsigns.com/dupuytrensradiotherapy.html and the better ones taken by the local photographer... http://www.pushpullsigns.com/dupuytrensearlystagephotos.html
I'd imagine the list Wolfgang has provided covers all available in the States as this forum would be a good source of business.

It was just around week six that I felt less "activity" in the nodule. My cords look and feel the same, but the swelling I had for several months is totally gone.
I will PM you to ask about the communication between our two physician!
