Re: Radiation Treatment in Portland, Oregon

I'm happy for you. I'm glad you kept after your insurance carrier. Do you live close to Portland?

Retired Teacher,
Thank you, I would not have found Dr. Cha without your comments on this forum. Hopefully the process works.

Callie,

Congratulations on the coverage. Persistence paid off. Good luck with the treatment and may your outcome be as successful as mine.

Thank you Lori. I will keep posting about it because I am really interested to see if I can see/feel any difference.

RetiredTeacher,

Did you get a final cost of your radiation treatment (including what they charged the insurance company)? They won't tell me how much the procedure will cost. They said the cost is $8,000 if a person does not have insurance. It seems unethical that they could/would charge considerably more if a person had insurance.

Re: Radiation Treatment in Portland, Oregon

Callie,
My insurance covered everything. I have had no out of pocket expenses because I had met my deductibles, etc. The total cost of the hospital that was paid by the insurance was between 5 and 6 thousand each time--so between 10 and 12 thousand for the total treatment.

Thank you. That is interesting. I got the impression that the total cost of treatment would be very close to $8,000 (for both sessions). My insurance will cover 80 percent.

When I had asked the hospital for an approximate cost before my treatment they had quoted me about 10,000 for both rounds of treatment. Are you having both hands done?

Re: Radiation Treatment in Portland, Oregon

That is the difference. I am just having one hand done. They are great people at Providence. I can understand your compliments for them. If they come through with the price they have mentioned (approx. $8,000 for one hand), they should be able to build quite a practice. I like the idea that my whole hand is getting RT. The way Dr. Cha explained, it shouldn't be a problem.

Callie, you say you are getting your whole hand treated by RT. Do you mean your whole hand or do you mean the whole palm? Good luck with the treatment!
