Ready for NA

Hi Everyone
This is my first post so I'm hoping someone has had this experience.
I've had 2 surgeries on my little finger in the past 8 years, but the problem has returned.
The hand specialist that did the operations said that if it returned, i would probably have one more operation left before nothing else could be done, but I'm not wanting to risk my last chance on an operation that has failed twice already.
My question is, has anyone had multiple surgeries on one finger and then had NA successfully. The website for David Dilley in Harris Park states that if you have had surgery, you cannot have NA.
I need to know if there surgeons out there that can do NA even if I have had surgery.
Thanks for your help.James Watters

Re: Ready for NA

Hi James; Dr Dilley is correct if you are talking about NA on the line of the previous surgery but a lot depends on what scar tissue you have and where the new contraction is.

I have had surgery on one little finger and you certainly couldn't do NA up to the first joint on that finger but you could if I had problem with the next joint. Also when they did surgery on my little finger the surgeon also opened up the palm and removed tissue yet I have since had NA done on that hand that has involved the palm.

If you decide to get NA done you will probably have to go to someone with a bit more experience and training in the technique than Dr Dilley.

Having had NA done 6 times in Paris with first rate results. I decided last year that I would see what Dr Dilley could do. His technique was different to what I had experienced in Paris and when I questioned his approach he explained why the Paris doctors who have done 10's of thousands of NA procedures have got it wrong. I wouldn't have minded if his approach had worked but he failed to get any improvement in the finger. I will get the same finger done again in Paris later this year and I expect it to be fully straightened in 10 minutes.

My suggestion is that you plan a trip to watch the Rugby World Cup and get your hand seen while you are up there.

Re: Ready for NA

Hi Seph
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
The cut from the last operation is on the side of my finger and I can't feel where the new problem is so I guess a visit to my GP is needed to establish the origin.
I would be interested in knowing who you see in Paris so I can contact them directly and perhaps send them a photo. I have googled a few names but nothing comes up so I'm flying blind when it comes to someone you can trust. You seem to have confidence in who you see so I think that's a good recommendation.
Love your Rugby idea, now if I can convince the wife.......
Thanks again Seph Regards James

Re: Ready for NA

Hi James; I would be surprised if you have found a GP in Australia who can trace a Dupuytren cord. You should be able to feel it yourself. Follow it right up into the palm of your hand. They might release it from there.

You will find a list of French doctors on the Dupuytren Society web site under Treatment. There is a link to a list of French doctors half way down the page. http://www.dupuytren-online.info/NA_list..._countries.html

For my part I have been to Dr Badois and Dr Manet-Chopin. Both are very good. Note that in France there are no referrals required and they shouldn't need a prior consult. Just send them photographs and they should be able to see the issues and will book and appointment.

You should also note that your appointment is your appointment so be on time. They don't leave you sitting in a waiting room past your appointment time as they do in Australia.
