Re: RT with Dr Shaffer

I have had a look and it looks good to me, good job.

I have actually just sent a list of questions to Dr Shaffer covering a whole load of different things, I'll let you now when I get the answers.

Re: RT with Dr Shaffer

It'll take time to determine which protocol is more effective or if they are similar in effectiveness. 2Gy x 10 days in two weeks worked for me. It's been 3 years and no new nodules in my palm.

Re: RT with Dr Shaffer

In case any one is interested I asked Dr Shaffer a load of questions with the agreement that I would post them on my blog. Mostly the questions were about the use of radiotherapy to treat Dupuytren's and Ledderhose disease.

Hi Gary

Very good write-up. It sounds like he has quite an interest in Dupuytrens/Ledderhose treatment.

Re: RT with Dr Shaffer

Hi Gary

Thank you for all that info from Dr Shaffer. Really very informative and its great that he's so keen on RT for Ledderhose and Duyputrens. It really does seem the best option when caught early.

My Dupuytrens is in early stage on both hands and I am in my first week of RT with him and his RT team at the Royal Surrey Hospital. So far so good, but I'm only on day 3 (tomorrow). No redness yet or anything but will update my progress. Hope your Ledderhose treatment is going well and thanks for working so hard on everyone's behalf!

Re: RT with Dr Shaffer

Gary - I developed Dupuytrens in l.h. little finger early last year. Xiapex injection in December resulted in large blood blister and swollen lymph glands. Dupuytrens has returned in that finger and is now also in ring finger of same hand, r.h. little finger and Ledderhose nodules in both feet! Wish I had left well alone but will now have to push on. GP appears to know very little about either Dupuytrens or Ledderhose. How much did it cost to see Dr. Shaffer - I definitely do not want Xiapex ever again although it works for some people. Is there any way we can obtain Verapamil gel in this country?

Re: RT with Dr Shaffer

He gave me a free consultation, free whatever happened and then I just had to pay for the radiotherapy. Although Dr Shaffer is great I do think that it works out much cheaper to go to Germany if you get multiple hands/feet done but no harm in a free consultation.

If you are interested go to his website and contact his private secretary. E-mail address is on the page below, she is very helpful and feel free to say you saw my recommendation (not that you'll get a discount or I get any referral fee or anything).

Hope that helps,

Hi, I am about to embark on treatment on both hands and both feet (Dupuytrens and Ledderhose), with Dr. Shaffer. It looks like some people have decided to go to Germany instead. I would appreciate hearing of others experiences. Obviously, treatment in UK would be much easier and hopefully as effective.

You may consider that Dr. Shaffer has never published his LONG-TERM DATA in a peer-reviewed journal, which has been done by at least 2 GERMAN GROUPS. I went for the most experienced center and ended up with Prof. Seegenschmiedt in Essen and now in Hamburg - a step which I never regret sofar.

Long-term experience is really unbeatable, Larry
