Can a foreigner really take advantage of the inexpensive cost? What doctor did you go to?
I believe so, but it would be better to check. I had NA by Dr. Pizzuti just a week ago, so should wait a bit longer with drawing conclusions as to the success, but here is my initial feedback:

Yes you can as a private patient contact one of the Paris doctors, listed on this site, and take it from there. Of course a discussion including photo's via email (a pre-consultation) would be part of this.

Edit to add, forum search is your friend again here, first example I found is in this thread (post by seph), http://www.dupuytren-online.info/Forum_E...ome-0_1468.html

Re: Successful Surgery and Rehab

The french medical system seems to be far less structured than anything I have encountered. I am a kiwi living in Sydney Australia and I don't speak french so definitely a foreigner in France. I have had NA done 5 times by 2 different doctors in Paris.

With both doctors I emailed a photograph of my hands and requested an appointment. Both doctors responded within a few days and booked appointments. At the appointment there is no waiting, no nurse and no fuss. At the allotted time you see the doctor and the procedure is done there and then. Cost is 200 euros if only one finger and 300 euros for multiple fingers.

Seems to me that anyone on the east coast of the USA can pay for a trip to Paris on the saving in cost.

Re: Successful Surgery and Rehab

Mel,

Brian PDX's explanations are excellent (IMHO). I had waited until my finger reached 90 degrees contraction. No observable nodules (to my eyes) at that point. I suppose I was extremely fortunate that the NA procedure (by one of thee best here on the west coast) was successful and has maintained thus far. I followed that up with 3 months PT as recommended and continued night splinting for a few years.

Now, I have some nodules, one noticeable "pit" and one finger on the other hand (not the one with the nodules and pit!) that is somewhat contracted. Just watching, waiting, and hoping at this point.

I'm partial to NA over Xiaflex because it's a "one and done" procedure whereas with Xiaflex there are generally two separate medical encounters. I'm skittish with any/all medical intervention. NA is also far less expensive.

As to the actual procedure itself, the numbing injections were mildly uncomfortable at first, then increasingly painful - must have had 6 or 7 or 8. But I did not feel anything whatsoever during the actual NA procedure itself - must have been numbed but good.

All in all, it worked. I've been extremely happy with the overall experience.

I simply can't express how grateful I am to everyone's generous support of my cry for help. It's so important to go into something like this well informed, which I definitely was not when I started this thread.

I will stave off surgery until there is no other alternative. I will begin with a consultation with a doctor well versed in NA and/or Xiaflex. I had no idea about all of this 3 days ago and now I'm sounding like a pro. All thanks to you all.

Hi Mel,
Did you ever find a doctor in New York to do either a Xiaflex injection or needle aponeurotomy? I am looking for a recommendation to a doctor in the NYC area that has significant experience with both Xiaflex and NA. I've had one injection of xiaflex and it worked perfectly on a MIP contracture of the small finger but my new contracture is a PIP contracture (20 degrees) of the small finger and is going to be trickier to fix with Xiaflex, although, that is my preference. Would love to hear how you made out in your search.

Thanks for your post.
Matt
