Turmeric for DC

Just read a newspaper post about taking Turmeric. The person started taking Turmeric for knee pain. He had DC for 10 years, but within three days he felt a change in his DC for the better. I read an old post about Turmeric on our forum posted in 2004.
Has anyone taken this Turmeric with any kind of results since then? Crazy, people with DC will bite at any cure and I, like many others, am hungry.

Re: Turmeric for DC

I get a professional monthly massage, use bio oil to self massage and take 1500mgs of tumeric daily. Seems to keep things at bay. Heard a guy here did 10,000 mgs daily for two weeks and got great results.

Re: Turmeric for DC

As far as I know there is no credible evidence that tumeric, circumin or any other anti-inflammatory agents have an impact on the progression of DC. Due to the way in which the disease progresses or not, anecdotal information is of little value. In my family myself and three siblings all have DD. My older brother used circumin for some years in an attempt to stop/delay contraction without benefit and has just had surgery, I have had both hands irradiated as I had very active disease, my other 2 siblings both have nodules and chords, no contraction and do nothing.

Tumeric/circumin may have other anti-inflammatory benefits but I would not count on it to stop DD.

Re: Turmeric for DC

‘Golden paste’ (google it) is touted around as one of those natural health supplements for all sorts of conditions. Including for DD as a massage, maybe orally. But as stephenp says there are no trials with evidence of the health benefits, so whether it’s snake oil or helpful has to be a personal judgement.

Re: Turmeric for DC

Dupuytren's may be associated with an inflammation. Taking something anti-inflammatory might reduce the inflammation and give the impression that it helps with Dupuytren's. But Dupuytren's is a systemic disease and something like curcumin/turmeric is unlikely helpful. I myself have been taking higher doses of curcuma/turmeric (700 mg daily = 140 mg curcumoids) for 1/2 year for other reasons and saw no effect on my Dupuytren's.

Re: Turmeric for DC

I guess I already knew, simply because someone would have posted more recently. I had a xiaflex injection in 2015 on my left ring finger. I wear gloves with metal plates in them at night. I seemed to be in stand-by with DC but I still watch for a new idea.

I take 10,000 mg Turmeric daily - NOT helping DC

Hi - I'm new to this forum and relatively new to DC, or at least to my diagnosis. That said, I am a veteran multiple sclerosis patient (diagnosed in 1999) and starting over a year ago, I began taking high dose biotin (300 mg/day), 10,000 mg of turmeric a day, and 75,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily. [These were the levels recommended by the PA at the clinic I go to, specifically for patients with MS.]

ANYWAY, turmeric... I would love to say that it has changed my life, but no. In fact, my DC has worsened SUBSTANTIALLY in the past year, despite the religious use of it. As we say in Spanish, Que lastima! (What a pity/shame).

So, my advice regarding turmeric: try it. It is NOT going to hurt you. It is reported to have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, so why not? Will it be a miracle cure? Doubtful; BUT different things work differently for each individual. It won't hurt to try.

I saw on some British TV programme ("Trust me, I'm a doctor") a trial undertaken with turmeric - 3 groups, one placebo, one lot who took pills and the third group who used the actual turmeric spice powder in their cooking. Only the latter group showed any anti-inflammatory effect in their blood tests after the trial.

Re: Turmeric for DC

Interesting trial but far from being conclusive. There is no effect in two tests and a small effect in a third test without any statistical analysis. The observed change is only in a substiture parameter and this change might just be accidential. The speculation why power is better than supplement might be right but is based on still unclear results and therefore, in my opinion, too early. Nevertheless, no reason not to have a curry!

Re: Turmeric for DC

I have taken turmeric capsules daily along with putting the powder on my food each day,for many years. I have read that the powder is much better ...I began doing this, because of it's overall health benefits, but I take an eat a great amount of supposed healthy things. Cannot say if turmeric help ward off Dups. I still feel that night splints, avaoid vibration, wear padded gloves while driving etc. avoid injuring the hands, do not drink or smoke ..and you just might stack the cards in your favor.
