Wearing a brace 24/7?

I'm a 56 yr old female who woke up one day with a bent middle finger This was a couple of months ago. After research I'm certain it is Dupuytren's. I'm wondering if it is suggested or not recommend to wear a finger brace 24/7 for a few weeks? Will that help? It also seems that when I do finger stretches the day before I wake up with my finger completely curled. I will search the forum on exercises and see if anyone is having any luck/relief by doing them. Thank you and glad I found you all.

Re: Wearing a brace 24/7?

Hi, welcome to the forum! Honestly, I am not sure that what you are describing is Dupuytren's. Dupuytren's takes at least months, typically years to create a bent finger. How about seeing a good hand doctor who can diagnose the root cause of your problem?

Wearing a hand splint 7/24 is not recommended because your fingers need to be moving for staying flexible. With a 7/24 splint they will become quite stiff.

Re: Wearing a brace 24/7?

I agree with Wolfgang. If you can straighten the finger, say with the other hand, or against an object, then it is not Dupuytren's. If it is some other joint, tendon, rheumatic condition then constant use of a splint might be counter productive, but a hand specialist Dr should diagnose and advise.

Thank you Wolfgang for your feedback. I have made an appt. so will report back on diagnosis.

Thank you for your thoughts. Much appreciated. If it isn't Dupuytren's I'll be glad simply because I have a heck of a time pronouncing it! Stay well ~ Sarah
