Xiapex

Hi all , another Xiapex treatment , 3 years after the first one , therefore I knew what to expect . This time it was mainly the middle finger on the right hand . Injections on Monday , manipulation yesterday and this time I heard 2 distinct pops again with a small skin tear . Swollen and a bit bruised and stiff at the moment , but hopefully getting better . I had a 3 hour operation about 5 years ago on my left hand ( fasciectomy ) when I had a long recovery time , when the whole hand swelled up 5 days after the operation . Hence I would now go with the Xiapex treatment everytime if possible , even knowing what the injections are like !

Re: Xiapex

Thanks for sharing your update. I think finding a treatment that suits you and you’re happy with is the way to go.

Re: Xiapex

I went through 2 of those last year, about 3 months apart (my doc said the little finger was so badly intruded by cords that he needed to do the Xiaflex injection and procedure separately for that finger). My contracture affected the ring and little fingers on my RH. After the first Xiaflex experience--although successful in the sense that my ring finger was resurrected--I was not looking forward to the 2nd, due to the immense pain and discomfort that was involved with the injection itself, not to mention the swelling (my right armpit was so black and blue you'd think someone punched me--hard!) and the pain associated with the manipulation. However I went through with it and now, about a year later, I am glad I did, having forgotten all the negatives associated with that treatment. My little finger is somewhat deformed however, due to the immense number of cords that had intertwined with nerves, etc. I know the ortho surgeon did the best he could given the intensity of the DD in that finger. I can at least use it (I am a piano player) and it does stand somewhat erect. I have not noticed any curvature inward so am optimistic the treatment will last at least for a few years before I may have to consider going through it again. Hopefully something else will be discovered by then that is more easy to take!
