Yoga

I have had minor Dupuytrens for eight years in one hand and two years in the other hand. I also have Ledderhose in both feet although visible nodules only in my left foot.

I do Yoga and have taken it up rather seriously. Does anyone here do Yoga? Any positive or negative effects?

I have dropped from 335 to 305 lbs and am looking to lose more weight and therefore my pre-disposition to further contracture. There is no one in previous generations who has this but my only sibling, a sister has minor Dupuytrens in both hands, no contracture.

I have had two rounds of radiation in both hands but Prof S would not do the feet yet. I am 55 years old. Oh, and I am down to one drink per month to limit the advancement of Dupuytrens.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Mike

I had a period when I engaged in Pilates classes.....I ve always enjoyed sport and have had a healthy lifestyle......I got into Pilates because I started getting more injuries playing Tennis.....and I thought that Piltes may loosen me up!!.....despite significant effort on my part....the stiffness that I had throughout my body continued to get worse.....a year or so later I was diagnosed with LD and DD....

I believe that this was not coincidental.....it seems logical to me that if you have bilateral LD and DD other connective tissue in your body can also be negatively affected......many DD patients have suggested that over stretching can aggravate there hands.....From my experience this is also the case in your body.......as a result I embarked on a programme of Myofascial
release......There are some good examples on YouTube......I found these excersizes really helpful as they loosen up your tissues without the stretching.....

But as with many things with this condition you have to try things and see what works for you.....if you feel Yoga helps you.....I would go for it....

good luck

Gazza
