Thanks for the links, I will check them out. I'm a summer cyclist so will give that a miss next week :-) But there are tennis courts near the clinic, and I'm an all seasons tennis player.

About the sandals, I only wear them indoors at home in winter. Thankfully I'm not usually on my feet that much non-stop standing and walking, but when I am for more than a couple of hours with normal shoes it becomes a problem. Strangely I don't have a problem jogging or playing tennis, even playing more than a couple of hours, so I converted a pair of my tennis shoes into day shoes (painted them black) but it didn't solve the problem - so it's something to do with the different dynamic of walking or standing, I think. Oddly enough today I saw an elderly man wearing sandals outdoors, with socks on which is considered by the fashion purists a no-no, but I bet he didn't care. I think Hamburg might be too cold for that in February.

I don't think I will be having RT on my feet as I don't think I have LD. Yet!?

Hi Spanishbuddha
You may have a point about sticking to summer cycling. It reminds me a bit of northern hemisphere visitors who swim at the beach here in winter!

Interesting that my feet react the same way you describe: standing or stopping and starting is much worse than during exercise. I think that good circulation probably helps to decrease the pain associated with the immune response to LD.

Have you tried Nike Free shoes? They won't keep you warm, but they are good around the house! Apparently Prof Seegenschmiedt is also a fan.

All the best
Di

Bicycle Rental in Hamburg

Hamburg like most of northern Germany is fairly flat.
It is a university city, so there are a lot of cyclists and cyclepaths.
It seems to be well equipped with bike hire shops.

Between 9.00 AM and 4 PM you are allowed to take your
bike with you into the SUBWAY ...

For the Central Areas of Hamburg City you may use:

...

Have Fun and don't break your arm as this may harm Dupuytren mostly, Larry

Hi Larry
Thanks for your generosity - I really appreciated the info. What do you think about cycling in a German winter? Do many people do it?
I'll have a look at your links and let you know what I end up doing in Hamburg!
All the best
Di

Just a few Links for WINTERTIME CYCLING

I would take a shovel and some gloves ... LARRY

And I would ware special warm and cushionened clothing ...

... and that's HAMBURG in WINTERTIME; possibly an impression you may have in the evening !

Or even better use a "tricicle" http://car.pege.org/2006-cbr-munich/bicyle-for-winter.htm

Re: Going to Germany for RT!

Hi Larry
Thanks for your photo - hahaha !! I LOVE cycling, but not that much! I will stick to other ways to entertain myself

I had a friend from the UK who baked himself on the beach all day and ended up with a white hand mark on his stomach and second degree sun burn all around that ended up in a giant blister with a hand mark in the middle

Ah, the joys of traveling to far-flung places....

All the best

Hi Spanishbuddha
How are you feeling now that your treatment is just around the corner? You must be excited? Did you find some suitable shoes to wear in Germany?
I'm looking forward to learning from your experience in preparation for my trip - will you be in internet contact to keep in touch if you can over the course of your treatment?
Those of us who have been following your story can provide company and support through the ether!

Hello Di. Yes packed my bag today, early, so I don't forget anything. Have got some new insoles for my shoes, and put my orthotics aside, and have a been out walking and testing to see what other mods I might have to make before I go. Have been in final contact with Prof S before leaving to confirm logistics. So pretty much ready, just some things to take care of at home.

I do hope to have Internet next week, and if I do I'll do a brief update as I progress.

Spanishbuddha - Have a safe and enjoyable trip! I also look forward to hearing all about it. I've started correspondence with the Prof/Dr. so will probably be doing the trip in the next couple months.
Take care,
Diane
