Have been gone a while need an answer

Hello to all. I have been gone from this forum for a while.. so long that I forgot my username and password. I used to be nenacindy. I have recently found out that my ex-husband has dups. and I have plantar fibromas. Does this mean that our children will be affected as both of their parents have this disease? My son is very concerned.

Hi,

Not necessairily. Some have had relatives with this disease and it has no been passsed on. There are many other factors that can cause DD. type of Jobs, construction workers, etc....also many on this site have had injuries to their hands after which DD started to develop.
Try a search on this site for causes on this disease. Perhaps it will help you put your mind at ease. No one in my family had DD. Just me. I personally think it's a disease so rarely recognized until the signs are obvious and by that time is tricky to treat. Many people have claimed to have nodes in their hands for years (ME), and doctors did not know what they were as long as they didn't cause pain it was generally unknown. At least that was my experience, and many on this forum.

King Regards,
Cherise

inheriting Dupuytren & Ledderhose

The tendency to develop DD or LD is inherited but it still needs a trigger to actualy break out. Smoking seems to cause an earlier onset and heavy trinking as well, also accidents or hard manual labour or sports, like rock climbing. My mother developed her first nodule at the Age of 80, I started with 35. It also be vice versa, so no need for your son to be concerned, The chance to maybe will develop Dupuytren's is not worth worrying. maybe they have found a cure by then.

Thanks for the speedy responses. My kids will be happy to hear that they may be able to avoid the lumpy feet and the bad hands.
