Re: LD

Plantar fascial fibromatosis, also known as Ledderhose's disease, Morbus Ledderhose, and plantar fibromatosis, is a relatively uncommon non-malignant thickening of the feet's deep connective tissue, or fascia. In the beginning, where nodules or cords start growing along tendons of the foot, the disease can go unnoticed. Eventually, however, the cords thicken, the toes stiffen and bend, and walking becomes painful. The disease is named after Dr. Georg Ledderhose, a German surgeon who described the condition for the first time in 1894.
WEARING PROPER SHOES, arch supports, extra padding where needed has given me enough support to take short walks. It's painful at the stiffening stage and rolling a frozen water bottle under the arch helps the arch tendon stretch rather than retract.
Also have added chefs rubber cushion matts in the kitchen for extra cushion for standing while cooking or just sit on a stool. Cannot stand long or walk on unlevel surfaces. Sometimes feet feel like they are on fire and throbbing pain & muscle cramps. I have found that magnesium oil relieves the pain. The nodes are very small at this stage. Hoping they stay that way.

Kind Regards
Cherise

Re: LD

IV'E HAD A COUPLE OF MONTHS OF BEING WORRY FREE ABOUT MY FEET. NOW THE BURNING AND TINGLING IS BACK WITH A BUMP UNDER THE BALL OF MY RIGHT FOOT. WENT TO AN ORTHO LAST WEEK HE DIDNT SEEM CONCERNED ABOUT THE BUMP, WHICH UPSETS ME BECAUSE I ALSO HAVE DD, AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. HE THINKS ITS TARPUL TUNNEL AND SUGGEST A NERVE TEST. I OPTED FOR EXCERSIZES FOR TIME BEING. HE SAID HE HAS REMOVED THE BUMPS ON OTHER PATIENTS BEFORE. I'VE READ THEY COME BACK AND BRING FRIENDS, SO I DONT THINK I'LL DO THAT. IV'E ALSO READ ABOUT VERAPAMIL OINTMENT. ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR ME?

Re: LD

Hi Vic,

I am sorry that you are hurting so much and can understand your concern.

I am using Verapamil ointment. I think it is helping me somewhat. It would probably help me more if I used it twice a day consistently (as directed.) I tend to be inconsistent.

I know there are other treatments out there (Radiotherapy, Cryotherapy) etc My understanding is similar to yours. Surgery may be the last resort after these other efforts since it can damage the tendon. However, I believe it may be necessary for some people.

I hope yours improves and take care.

Re: LD

Hi Vic,

a bump under the ball of your foot is not necessarily Ledderhose disease (though it might be). Do you have a chance for a good diagnosis?

I agree that surgery is the last resort. Recurrence after surgery is typically frequent and fast. We recently surveyed patients about how they parceived various treatments. Results are on http://www.dupuytren-online.info/patient_survey.html. Verapamil did not achieve very good ratings but it may work for some patients and then it's good.

Re: LD

THANKS FOR THE RESPONSE, THE DR. DOES THINK ITS THE START OF LD, BUT MAYBE SOMETHING ELSE TOO. HE WAS AN ORTHO, I THINK I NEED A PODIATRIST TO CONFIRM. I JUST LOOKED AT THE SURVEY, SEEMS RADIATION HAD THE BEST RESULTS, CYROSURGERY CAME IN 2ND. IM NOT SURE WHAT THAT IS.

Re: LD

I HAD AN MRI, I HAVE ONE FIBROMA AND ONE NUEROMA. I'M GOING TO START ULTRA SOUND THERAPY. DR. SAID IT HAS WORKED WELL WITH OTHER PATIENTS. I HAVE READ ABOUT IT WITH MIXED REVIEWS. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF RADIATION WOULD WORK ON THE NUEROMA AS WELL AS THE FIBROMA?
