ledderhose's and radiation therapy Thailand

Hello My name is Jery and I was diagnosed with Plantar fibromatosis in January of this year after 2 surgeries to remove the lumps on my soles. We tried cortisone shots and that did not work. The pain to walk was getting worse so I went to a specialist in Bangkok. We decided to do radiation therapy. I went through 6 weeks 5 times a day. It wasn't too bad except for being sore and tired. About a month after treament I went back for a follow up and yes it did shrink them a tiny bit, But, a new tumor outside the radiation area was discovered on the last MRI. Now I do not know what to do. My doctor does not want to do surgery as it is to risky and now I do not know if it is too lates now that it has spread again. Has anyone gone through something similar or have any suggestions. Thailand is my home and the hospital is actually one of the top hospitals in the world. What should I do? Thanks.

Re: ledderhose's and radiation therapy Thailand

I do not have Ledderhose's or other problems with my feet, but I do have Dupuytren's in my hand. I had RT and almost a year later, nodules showed up outside the radiated area. After about 3 months, I could tell that it was progressing fast. I had RT done again, but in the two spots showing active disease, one on the inside of my little finger and the other spot on the inside of my thumb.
That has been effective - nodules reduced and no new nodules forming.
Your doctor could contact Dr. T at Scripps LaJolla/San Diego. I'm sure he would be willing to talk with your doctor. You can find his contact information under Radiation therapy/ clinics in the left column.
Good luck. It's hard to know exactly what to do.

Re: ledderhose's and radiation therapy Thailand

Thank you very much for your information. I wasn't sure if I could do radiation again in the same area. Glad to hear that it may be possible. I will definatley check this out. I do not want to have them growing bigger and spreading. It's enough as it is. Thank you again and best of luck with your hands.

Another option is to talk to Prof. Seegenschmiedt, Hamburg, probably the most experienced radiation therapist worldwide for this specific problem ...
