Lidocaine was removed from my Verapamil RX - Verapamil up to 15%

Hi everybody,

I went in to see my podoc for a couple of things unrelated to LD and I needed a new prescrption for my LD-- Verapamil cream that works so well. I was seeing a partner that I hadn't seen before and he felt my level of Verapamil was too low so he raised it to 15%.

I said fine to this. But when the compound was delivered (I didn't check then) later I noticed it didn't say lido in lidoderm like the other had (since he didn't mention he was going to change that part of the script I thought it would remain).

On calling the pharmacy he said that was how he had written it and he would call this morning and talk to the Dr.. I also called the Dr's office and they never called me back. The Parmaicist did call and talk with the Dr but could not get the Dr to change his mind. I spoke with the pharamcist and he said if he was using it he would want the ldocaine in it.

Liodocaine if used in large doses can be harmful and even fatal. But I was using as written, thinly appling. It really irks me that now I will be going back to excruciating pain in my feet if he refuses to put the lidocain back in. Or will have to seek out another Dr.

Right now I am still using the old mixture of 0.2% Verampil and 2% Lido. Doesn't shrink the nodules very fast but at least I can walk and be active.

I have read here (awhile back) where a couple of people have used the Verapamil gel and didn't see any results and I think that is because the lidocaine was omitted. Has anyone had just the 15% Verapamil who had severe painful nodules and had it help?

Thanks

Loonsong

Hi Loonsong
That's not good news - can you try another doctor?
All the best

Hi Di and all,

Well all is solved I think.....

After one more call to the Dr he called me back and said he didn't realize how important the lido was to me and he would add it back. So I had to take the compound back to the pharmacy (a 30 min drive for me) and they mixed the lido in with the Verapamil tonight. Dr. raised the level of lido from 2% to 5% so that will help when the weather is severe and my feet hurt. I didn't get around to eating my dinner till 10pm not my favorite schedule.

The only problem with the new gel is that it has lumps, before when it was all mixed together it did not have lumps (white grits visible to the eye and you can feel it going on now). I wonder if this will lower the effectiveness of the lido?

Thanks,
Loonsong

Hi Loonsong
Well thank goodness for that! Not sure about the white granules in the gel, although it is possible if it's the verapamil, that it effectively decreases the dose. You should check with the compound pharmacist
All the best!
