Lower back problems related to Ledderhose

Hello everybody!
I just registered on this forum. Since 30 years or so I developed Dupyutren, had 5 operations on my hands in the last 7 years.
I also developed Ledderhose since quite a while. Although the condition is not painful in my case, the last 3 years I have had serious problems in my lower legs, upper legs and lower back and have had extensive and painful physiotherapy treatments. Lately i suggested another therapist that there might be a relation with the Ledderhose condition and the contractions in the muscles in my calves, resulting in stiff upper legs, eventually resulting in severe trouble in the hamstrings. I've been searching the internet on this possibility but didn't find much specific information on this topic. Yet this physiotherapist recognized the possible connection: he recommended me to consult a podologist who provided me with inlays for my shoes. I can't judge the effects so far, I'm just able to walk short distances after 3 months.

So:

I thought I had back problems due to physical labor (lifting heavy stuff) but it now seems to be caused by walking a lot, witch is also a substantial part off my job.

Does anybody recognizes this possible connection between Ledderhose and lower back problems?

How can it be that this is not a standard check if you have lower back problems?

Also I have other symptoms that I think might be related: cold feet, cold knees.

Anybody else?

Best regards, Puddinglegs, (in Dutch: slasausbenen with thanks to Michiel Romein, Jiskefet, famous Dutch TV comedy)

Re: Lower back problems related to Ledderhose

Welcome to the forum puddinglegs (nice moniker!)

I think that back, hip and knee problems are well associated with foot or gait problems. At least by podiatrists. Pat Cash the tennis player is a well known example, he had/has severe back problems caused by his feet. He must play with special insoles, like most sportmen/ women actually. He also swears by Pilates.

None of this helps with Ledderhose of course, but I am surprised the connection, as you mention, is overlooked.

Take care SB

Re: Lower back problems related to Ledderhose

Thanks for your reaction Spanishbudda. Indeed it seems quite obvious that problems in the feet can have severe consequences for the upper regions, podiatrists know this very well. I can imagine related problems in shoulders and neck. Yet why was this diagnosis not made by my physiotherapist and doctor? I had extensive treatment for the symptoms, the cause was never recognized. How can we bring this very likely connection under the attention of the international medical and physiotherapeutical society? There must be lots of other patients with the same symptoms....
