Need info

I am 57yr female with plantar fibroma on both foot. From the readings I have done, I gather that Ledderhose affects mainly people of north european origin, but I am asian. Would anyone be able to shed some light on the following:

Can glucosamine bring about ledderhose and the effects on the nodules once glucosamine is stopped.
Success with radiation therapy?
Success with surgery?
Status of Xiaflex to treat ledderhose?

Thank you

*** A: maybe. This is just suspected, not a definite effect.
Success with radiation therapy?
*** A: Radiotherapy works well on Ledderhose nodules. Have alook at the radiotherapy pages of this web site.
Success with surgery?
*** A: sometimes yes, but often quick recurrence and long recovery after surgery.
Status of Xiaflex to treat ledderhose?
*** A: not planned for Ledderhose, not even a trial planned. Reason probably is that Xiaflex is injected to dissolvbe and break cords, which is a different tissue than nodules.

Thank you

Re: Need info

Thank you Wolfgang. I am also presently dealing with plantar fasciitis so I am pretty wound up about this ledderhose disease. Never thought my life would be turned upside down so quickly.

Again thank you.

Re: Need info

Anne,

With XRT the sooner the better in terms of its success rate. Recommend getting it done as soon as possible. It was very effective in my less progressed hand and less so in the one that was much further along.

Suggest also speaking by phone to Dr. Denkler in California who is one of the people providing NA procedures and has researched Dupuytrens and Ledderhose more than most surgeons. I recall his comments that stretching was very helpful and that people suffering from Ledderhose did better in terms of contracture as they had to walk while people suffering from Dupuytrens were less inclined to do the necessary stretching.
