Plantar Fascia Removal

Hi everyone! I was recently recommended to have a full plantar fascia removal because of fibromas on both my feet. The pain is intense and I want them removed. Back in April I had surgery for tarsal tunnel and plantar fasciitis. I was wondering what everyone's opinion on this surgery is and I am also wondering if anyone else had ever had this surgery? Thanks!

Re: Plantar Fascia Removal

Has Ledderhose been ruled out? If not get that confirmed first. Personally feel surgery should be last resort. If Ledderhose you may want to consider RT as first course of action. My feet are killing me! Have several growths, pursuing the possibility of RT, non-invasive.

Re: Plantar Fascia Removal

Seems to me that there is a significant risk that the surgery that you are keen to have could make things worse. I would be trying everything else first. RT my be an option. Also cortisone injections or a combination of cortisone and NA.

I had surgery to remove a growth from my right foot 45 years ago and within a couple of years the growth returned in a larger and broader mass than the original and then spread to my other foot. I found the condition painful in the early years and I developed blisters where the growths rubbed on the bottom of my shoes. I chose to simply push through rather than have more surgery and, over time, the pain went away and the skin toughened so that it no longer blisters.

Give it time and stay active might be the best option.

Are you in the USA? There are reports of success with LD nodules using Cryosurgery. I don't know if this would apply to you, but even for LD surgery is considered a last resort, and so complete removal of the pf seems extreme. Do consider the success, or otherwise, and the life changes that may result. Someone else mentioned RT, that would perhaps be the next thing to look into though.

Hello Shreves<

I have had both rounds of RT on my left foot. Following week one after round 2 of RT. I began to have intense pins and needles, numbness of toes, pain in the heel, pain in ankle & over all swelling. I had MRI of the ankle. They has said it is Tarsal Tunnel. The posterior tibia tendon is inflamed causing problem and thickening inside the tarsal runnel. My podiatrist recommend surgery to release the pressure in the tunnel. I on the other hand, am seeking conservative methods. I went for a 2nd opinion and was told he did not think it was true tarsal tunnel. He also told me of one of his patients that he did a complete removal of the fascia and another fibroma grew on the bottom side of her foot. He said he had never heard of such a thing nor seen such a thing happen.

Surgery to remove the fascia: Have you considered radiation? I have read and researched on surgery to remove the entire fascia. To my understanding it can open a whole new world of problems. The doctors seem to make it sound so easy. They say just get good orthotics so your arch does not drop. So your gait is good, etc.

However I do have questions about the tarsal tunnel surgery

Regarding your Tarsal Tunnel surgery:
How did it go?
Did it relieve the pain?
What was the recovery process like?
Are you glad you had the surgery?
Where do you live?
What is the name of your doctor?
