Radiation in South Carolina
Hello all
The nodules in my feet are getting much worse. They are large and its making it hard to walk some days and i get throbbing pain at night. I really need to take care of this soon and would really like to try radiation first. Has anyone had or heard of radiation treatment in or around South Carolina? Its been hard for me to find a center that treats benign tumors.

Don't know about South Carolina - have you seen the clinics listed on this site in North Carolina and Virginia? There are others in Florida too (I know - bit of a trek - think vacation).

I see a lot of recommendations for radiation therapy on here. I live in KY so I am not opposed to a vacation in Fla. for treatment. I know the ld has to be active for radiation to be beneficial, but how does one know if it is? How can one know if it will be active by the time the appointment time rolls around? I would have to schedule time off from work in order to have treatment and I would be very disappointed to lose pay and spend time travelling only to be told it was not active.

When I had RT on my hand the sort of questions I was asked, to determine eligibility on the basis that the disease was active, was along the lines of: any physical changes in the last 3 months or so, any aching, soreness, tingling, pulling,cramps, heat/redness or similar also in the last 3 months or so. I kept (still keep) a monthly photo log of my hand so the changes were evident over a period of a few months if not month to month, and I shared these with the doctor.

Just to inform you (as I was told in March that I have DD and Ledderhose) that a suggestion was made to look for someone in the area where I live to do the radiation. After months of calling radiation oncologists in my area,found no one willing to do the RT. Then I called Vanderbuilt Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, TN. Not only is it ranked in the top 25 for cancer treatment, but is also a research and teaching facility. God answered many prayers and will start radiation on Monday the 11th. The Dr. and the whole staff were as excited as I was and am so grateful. I will be his first DD and Ledderhose patient and I am hoping he will continue to do research with other patients. Yes it is ashame that people here in the US go to Germany for treatment when we have excellent facilities and physicians that could provide RT for those who choose this route of treatment.
I wish you the best of luck and all you can do is be persistient in your quest in finding an "radiation oncologists" to help you.

Congratulations, annmaiden, for your persistence! Persistence always wins. Maybe you could ask the doctor at Vanderbuilt whether his clinic wants to be listed on our web site? It might help other patients.

Hi Annmaiden, Can you tell us the name of the doctor's office in Nashville? I now live in Greensboro, NC but if I can't find someone here, I'll come back to my old stomping grounds to have it done. Thanks!

Well i finally have and appointment with Radiation department at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. 15 miles from my house. I'm very excited. I hope they can help me. I will keep y'all posted.

I feel your pain Shane! I too have it in my feet and it's very painful at times to walk. I have found something tho that has really helped me get through some hard time. It's a product called Salonpas, they come in different sizes and I put a whole one on the bottom of my foot and it makes it feel so much better. You can buy these at CVS or Walgreen's. I am looking into having radiation treatment on my feet and hands and can't wait!!
