RT on 1 foot and both hands
Went for my intial appt today at OU Medical center. I live here so I will have RT each morning for seven days. They are doing both hands and my left foot. My right foot has already had the tendon removed so not much they can do for it. DO NOT let them take your tendon out..talk to someone else first. Try this first. I have had nothing but trouble with my foot since they did the surgery. I cannot stand or walk for long periods of time until the pain is unbearable. Everyone if right...everyone at OU was wonderful today..actually looking forward to this. Never said that before about this disease.

Re: RT on 1 foot and both hands
Had my first treatment today. Appt was at 7:10 got there about 6:50. I was at work by 7:50 that includes a 10 mile drive in morning traffic. I am so excited! any inconvenience or discomfort (nothing so far) this might cause is minor in comparision to the discomfort caused by the disease itself and surgerys. They are doing both my hands, I've already had 2 surgerys on my right hand, and my left foot. It's to late for my right foot, 2 surgerys on it and they took the tendon out. I asked Dr. Herman why my dr didn't recommend this 2 years ago instead of messing my foot up. He is as puzzeled about this as I am. I told him, I am a layperson, not in the medical field and I found you, why doesn't my doctor in the same city know about this. No answer.

Re: RT on 1 foot and both hands (RT is over now)
Okay, I have finished RT. I have already noticed an improvement in some of the nodules on both my hands a foot. The ones on my foot are softer and some are even smaller. Some of the ones on my hand are getting softer. I am still waiting to see how if helps with the larger cords on my fingers and the larger nodules and knots on my foot. It is my understanding that it takes a few months to really see a good inprovement. So far I am very happy with the results. No major issues, pink hands and foot a couple of times, a little nagging ache, nothing advil didn't take care of. I would recommend it to anyone. Having had 4 surgerys for this disease, this is a much much better route to take

Re: RT on 1 foot and both hands
Australia Calling. Hi Don't expect the cords in your hands to deminish. Radiotherapy is best on the nodules on the hands. In my case the nodules disappeared the cord did not, but there has been no progression. RT on 2007 . Keep up the use of cream containing Urea to retain moisture and the removal of the old skin tissue. It seems to be different in the feet. The cords in the arches certainly softened and the nodules dimished. I no longer have to wear orthodics. Regards.

Re: RT on 1 foot and both hands
Newman.. Its nice to hear that RT has lasted over 3 yrs. for you without progression... Hope it continues that way. Have you had any new growing nodules in the area that was not radiated?
I had RT on one foot and left hand in Nov. 09... The two nodules on the foot are much smaller/softer... The nodules on the hand are smaller and there is no progression in the radiated area, which I am very happy about.
However, I have two new growing nodules in the web between index finger and thumb (outside of the area that was radiated).
I would not hesitate to get RT again if needed.

Re: RT on 1 foot and both hands
Hi LubaM. I have no new nodules. I previously mentioned that I had a repeat surgery in 07 and I believe the surgery triggerred the numerous nodules adjacent to the surgery which was on the index and thumb of the right hand . A larger nodule and the formation of a cord appeared on the index finger of the other hand which had also had previous surgery. My RT. was complex as I have 4 skin grafts which had to be protected. My right hand only received a single protocol 5 day treatment of 3Gy, Total of 15 Gy. All but one nodule in the target areas have gone. The secret is not to wait too long .At the time of the RT the nodule on the left hand was growing quickly , was quite red on the surface and I seemed to rub my thumb on the raised nodule. This area had 2X5X3Gy treatments. There has been no progression although I have slight contraction. Regards

Re: RT on 1 foot and both hands
Newman, Nice to hear from someone who has a history after RT. To bad the cords won't be affected but the bend in my finger is less than the 45 degrees required for them to do surgery, so as long as it doesn't progress any further I will be happy. It is the nodules in my feet and the ones at the base of my forefinger that are giving me the most trouble. I have already noticed a change in them. Looking forward to more improvement over the next couple of months.
