When to take action and when to 'wait and see'

Hi.

Any advice or experience greatly received.

Background, I'm 33 and DD commenced in 2007 and surgery in 2009. Now just a nodule which is slowly growing but no contraction.

However, LD has started in both feet. One nodule about two to three years ago, and the other foot within this last year. A second small nodule has just appeared too, the two original nodules are about the size of a pea. It is getting worse and starting to cause discomfort.

I have read lots but sure there is more to do. RT with Dr Shaffer looks like a posibility to try and stop the progression of the LD. Is the view that this is a good idea and now might be a sensible time to try it? I think my feet are progressively (slowly) getting worse similar to the DD.

It looks like side effects will be minimal, save for some irritation - agree? But then am I silly to try and do something to stop it getting worse as it may do that anyway and at the moment it doesn't interfer with me? I'm worried what the future may hold. Maybe there are other more appropiate methods of action?

Thank you in anticipation.

Jack.

Re: When to take action and when to 'wait and see'

Not sure anyone knows the answer to this one. I'm inclined to leave things alone until they become a problem, such as pain, or nodules/fibromas interfering with function. Easier said than done of course. I advise people to start a log or record, with photos, to record symptoms. That way you get an objective view of change and rate of change, or cycles, or other related aspects. Since you are quite young maybe you should not act yet until you have some more evidence from your record and a face to face discussion with Dr Schaffer. I had my LH done after I started feeling it playing piano. There was some minor interference and my logbook showed increasingly active symptoms. I did not have my RH done at the time even though I had finger nodules that I could feel when playing tennis, I just taped them over and they went away and I feel sure the tennis helped that! It wasn't until I had nodules rubbing in the RH palm and sore that I had RT. Maybe I could have waited, but then I'm in my 60's and possibly live more for the moment than you, and like to be in control. Hope this ramble helps a bit.
