Xiaflex - new drug, FDA approved this month - anyone use this yet?

Well, just read about a new drug, approved by the FDA, called Xiaflex by Auxilium Pharma, USA. It has shown to be excellent for DC, Peyronie's, but it does NOT mention Ledderhose disease. Just by association, wouldn't it seem 'likely' that this drug would work for Ledderhose, as well?

Here is the site with information: http://www.xiaflex.com/

It is an inject-able drug and you can get treatment from a Dr. approved to administer this medication. Has anyone tried this yet? It's only been 12 days since approval, but this looks very encouraging. The phone number is on the site, and apparently, you can get information for the treatment by phone. Looks like they ship to an enrolled Dr. and they provide the treatment.

Again, my question is: If it is being used on DC & related Peyronie's, wouldn't Ledderhose disease fall into that category, too??

My DC has been surgically corrected (8 surgeries, mostly PIP), but my feet are progressing in a bad way. This could be a real life-saver. I'm going to speak with my PS and see if he might get approved to use this treatment. Again, I would like any opinion as to the relationship of DC with Ledderhose, and if they are considered to be similar enough for this new drug.

I've got a call in to them (they are closed today), but will I pass on any information I can get to this forum. At the very least, this is good news. The results and success rate appear to be high (91%) vs. placebo. Please send any information you find out - I will do the same.

Have you used the menu on the left side of this page to research all of the treatments for Dupuytren's - "Needle aponevrotomy", "Radiation therapy", "Other therapies", "Personal experiences"?
There may be answers to your questions in some of the good information on this site.
You may also have other questions related to the therapies. If so, post them on this Forum.

Drumhead....

Have you considered radiation therapy for your Ledderhose? ....if you want to try something else while there is more definite answers about Xiaflex...

I had radiation on my left foot nodules with Dr. Tripuraneni at Scripps, LaJolla, CA... Medicare paid in full..

So far the results are positive.... two large, hard nodules on my foot are now smaller and softer.

From what I've learned over the years, Xiaflex could very well break up and soften Ledderhose nodules. I haven't heard about any actual clinical trials. But once it's available, it could be used off-label for Ledderhose. I have no doubt it will eventually be tried. It's in Auxilium's interest to market the drug for as many conditions as possible.

I read your questions about Xiaflex. Have you gotten any more info about its possible use for Ledderhose? I am like you, if it successfully treats DD and Peyrone, someone will give it a shot to treat Ledderhose. It is just a matter of time.
