Cords

It seems like everyone has been talking about cords lately. So i thought i would tell everyone what's going on with mine. To start with i had RT 15 months ago and so glad i did because it put DD in remission. And yes i'm one of those people that is always looking at my hands. Just want to keep on top of it. It can drive you crazy. I was left with no nodules in hands but have 2 hands with palms full of cords. I know that RT does nothing for them and i read on here that they are now like scar tissue. I'm not really sure what i think about all these cords left in my hands. I have 1 large one and the rest seem to be medium size and these are all connected to one another. Kind of like webbing cords in hands. The big one goes down to the bottom of hand. I have a cupping in palm and the thumbs are pulling in. They haven't gotten bigger this is what i was left with after RT. Was thinking along the line of some NA to be able to use hands better. I don't know. Very confusing. I know RT can't do everything and i would do it over in a flash. I am a no surgery person. SO WAS WONDERING DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM?

Re: Cords

Cindy,
I have the exact same problem. My hand is cupping more and more. One cord is sneaking up into my little finger. I am planning to have NA done in July.

I had a consultation with Dr. Denkler about 2 months ago. We discussed NA or the Xiaflex (He refers to it as the enzyme.) He did my NA before and thinks that what would work in my palm. The remains of the nodule and accompanying cords in my little finger is in a place that he thinks Xiaflex would be better/safer as it is near a nerve. He says Xiaflex can affect tendons but not nerves. I plan to have NA first. He wouldn't do both at the same time anyway, so we'll see what he says when I go back for NA.

Re: Cords

Hi Cindy and Flora,

I also watch my hands all the time. My left hand continues to "hold" without progression since I had RT in November 2009...I still have some nodules on the palm, but they are much smaller and much softer than before RT. I have two small cords running from the thumb to the index finger, that pull the thumb in...but since there is no progression and no continued cupping, I've opted to "watch and see"....

On my right hand, where I have a contracted pinkie after repeated NA's...I also have a few nodules on the palm below the pinkie...and the same two small cords running from the thumb to the index finger. If the thumb continues to pull in towards the palm, I would consider NA to release the two cords, since NA is less likely to affect tendons. Again...
"watch and see"....

Weird disease !

Re: Cords

Hi Luba,
Good to see you back on the Forum!

Your description of the new cords from your pinky to your thumb sounds like mine. Cupping is gradual but continual and it is beginning to pull the little finger in some. Since the pinky seems to be the most vulnerable, I'm going to have NA done again. It's not progressing in the rest of my hand where I had NA. Even though RT stopped the progression of my DD, we know it does not work on the cords. So I'm not surprised nor disappointed in the results of RT for me, but just think that, for me, it need NA again to release the tightness across my palm - Dr. Denkler again in mid-July. I'm doing watch and see on my other hand, but I can tell it's sneaky little stuff going on.

Hi Flora,
If the cord you are having your NA on is near or pulling on the little finger, it is a good idea to be proactive before the little finger bends more...that is the finger hardest to correct...and you are in good hands with Dr. Denkler...good luck on your NA and keep us posted in July after you're done...
