Re: Dupuytrens and Raynaud's

Thank you for speaking up Brian, at least I'm not the only one!

Yes Callie, I would be very interested to find a study as well.

Re: Dupuytrens and Raynaud's

I also have both Raynaud's and Dupuytrens. I got a raging case of Raynauds quite suddenly about 15 years ago (living in Florida, no less!) and developed very aggressive Dupuytren's within 2 years after that. Still have both afflictions obviously - it was in the high 50's (F) this morning (winter in Florida) and I wore wool gloves to get from home to car to office - truly cold weather is torture. As for medical studies linking the 2 diseases, there really isn't anything substantial in the medical literature. This is all I could find (I'm a science librarian). Kristen

Concerning the question whether a correlation between the vasospasm and morphological changes in the neuro-myo-arterial glomerular (Hoyer-Grosser-Organ) exists also in Dupuytren disease, a series of 18 patients with Dupuytren and 5 patients with Raynaud disease were studied by finger venous occlusion plethysmography and finger tip biopsies. No typical histological changes were found in Dupuytren's Contracture, particularly none in the 13 cases (70%) which had a latent vasospasm and none in the 5 cases (30%) which had a normal plethysmogram, whereas in all the patients with Raynaud disease the typical morphological changes of wall, lumen and morphometric counts of the "Suquet-Hoyer" canals were found in correspondance to the abnormal plethysmogram. According to these results the vasospasm of Dupytren and Raynaud disease seems to be pathogenetically different.

Re: Dupuytrens and Raynaud's

Thanks for posting Kristen! I'm not sure what all of that means, but at least someone has done a study.

May never know about a connection.....More males get Dups...More females get Raynauds..

Re: Dupuytrens and Raynaud's

txmike:
I am just curious if anyone else out there has Raynaud's phenomenon to go along with their Dupuytrens Disease. I have had Raynaud's for about ten years and the DD just poped up about three years ago. Prof. S indicated to me that there is some correlation between the two.

I have lupus (SLE) and I have Raynaud's. The Raynaud's seems to come along with the lupus. Mine isn't that horrible. I just have to be careful not to expose my hands to cold temperatures for any length of time. My Dupuytren's started about 1.5 years ago. So, yes, I have both.

Yes - I have DC (my dad and grandma had it); I also have Raynaud's. Neither are causing me too much trouble at the moment. I am also a recovered alcoholic. (Unfortunately my dad and grandma never were in recovery). I've often wondered whether there is any connection with all this stuff

Re: Dupuytrens and Raynaud's

I believe I have DD, Raynuad's and a bit of HAVS, all of which, I saw somewhere, are "related" somehow. HAVS is hand arm vibration syndrome. My DD is just several lumps in my palms for a few years now, no contracture yet. And my Raynauds is very mild too, mostly in my feet. It seems to me they are all related somehow!?

Re: Dupuytrens and Raynaud's

I have had Raynaud's for many years and found DD nodules on my left hand 6 months ago (just a few months after I broke my wrist). My sister has had DD and LD for many years, but I don't believe she had Raynaud's.

Re: Dupuytrens and Raynaud's

Severe Raynauds (I remember swimming as a teen in the ocean for a minute: Raynauds in hands and feet, I ve had it before that as well).
SO pretty much my whole life.
Several times a day in winter, and several times a week in summer.
(And hart rythm can be weird as wel as bradycardia). Other than that I'm healthy.

And now Dupuytren (no contracture (yet?)) for 6 weeks.

Tore or stretched the SL ligament in my wrist 6 monts ago.
