Re: Aggressive Dupuytren's ??

I'm a 62 year old female who discovered I had dupreytren's while seeing an orthopedist for a knee injury, from falling off a horse, late summer of 2011. I thought I was having early stages of athritis. I went to a hand specialist with a sports medicine group in Chattanooga, Tennessee and he diagnosed the dupreytrens along with ledderhose after examing my feet. I had discovered the nodules in my feet about 18 months prior to that when someone noticed them in a hot tub so obviously no problems from them yet. In the last year I first had Ziaflex to allow me to flatten my left hand followed in 6 weeks by NA in my right hand and that was followed 7 months later by NA in my left hand and I'm now scheduled for Ziaflex for my right middle finger next week. I'd have to say the NA was a breeze with the worse part being the numbing procedure and I was back on my horses in 4 days, The Ziaflex caused some itching and a little swelling and was uncomfortable longer. I also should mention my doctor has suggested surgery for my right middle finger but after informing me of the aftercare I said no thanks...at least for now. My doctor described controlling dupreytren's like trying to control Kudzu vines. Not too encouraging but probably accurate. Linda Norton in SE Tennessee

Re: Aggressive Dupuytren's ??

No I do not know of anyone doing it in Atlanta. I had mine done in Charlotte and I know that the Univ.of Alabama has done it in the past. I found my doctor by calling all the clinics in Charlotte that do radiation. I had to call oncologist offices first to find out who did their radiation for cancer and then once I found that out I called the radiation offices to see if anyone had ever treated DD. It was very time consuming, but it worked. If no one has any referrals then I would recommend that you start your search this way. If a radiation office treats keyloids then they should be able to treat your DD. RT worked for me and even though it took a very long time to find Dr. Crimaldi in Charlotte, it was well worth all the hard work. Good luck and if I can help you locate someone in Atlanta let me know.

JNeel,
Adding on to what Lori posted, I am also unaware of any RT in Georgia. Dr. Crimaldi is not too far away in NC. Also, Dr. Meredith with University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital in Birmingham.

Both listed here http://www.dupuytren-online.info/radiotherapy_clinics.html
