Surgery for severe DC has helped me tremendously

I have had multiple surgeries for my DC in both hands, as well as knuckle pad removal. Having a good Surgeon who is educated on the Disease is crucial. I have a wonderful Surgeon in NY who has helped me keep most of the use of my hands. The surgery was painless after the surgery. Many fear this method (Palmar Fasciectomy), however, I highly recommend it to anyone who suffers from the severe form of this Disease. I have had surgery on my feet as well for PF, with GREAT success. I do not have scarring like most would think either. I wouldn't be able to use my hands at all if not for my Surgeon. I am going in for two more surgeries, including CT surgery. My Surgeon has been a God send in helping me live a somewhat normal life. If anyone is fearing this method of treatment,..I am here to tell you, there is nothing to fear. I have had unbelievable success going this route and I have no regrets whatsoever.

Hi Metzie,

delighted to hear that for you with your surgeon things have been working out so well. We are all different, and surgery quality varies widely. Personally, though, I wouldn't claim that there is nothing to fear as there is always the unknown, and the risk of complications including the body's reaction to what is a special kind of trauma. If I had a condition like yours where less invasive and risky solutions don't work, I would definitely want to have a surgeon like that.
