Hi i'm new. what do I do about my DUPS?

Hi all,

42, Male, Firefighter by trade, weight lifter, Brazilian Jiujitsu fighter. All passions of mine that make extensive ABuse of my hands.

I noticed my first nodule about 4 years ago and though it was a callous on my palm. another small bump appeared some time later. I self diagnosed DD through the inter webs. not much progression until this past 6 months. I began a powerlifting cycle in February and the DD grew like crazy.

A few months ago I went to see an outstanding local Ortho who by chance has done hundreds of DC procedures. He diagnosed my DD and recommended surgery. I asked about NA and Xiaflex and he said that he only does surgery and doesn't believe that other methods are worth doing.

I did some research and decided to hold off on surgery. I live on an island, 100 miles away from the next hand surgeon. I really don't want surgery as it will prevent me from pursuing my passions but the hand is becoming annoying. I also have 5 years left until retirement and if I have surgery now I can't continue to work in my field.

Im not sure what my next course of action should be. NA, xiaflex, just let it transform into a gnarly claw? any advice appreciated.

I myself would hold off surgery as well but Xiaflex or NA are no real options yet either, because you have no contracture. As your nodule grew quickly recently I would consider radiotherapy https://www.dupuytren-online.info/radiation_therapy.html . But you need to find someone who has experience with it, e.g. https://www.dupuytren-online.info/radiotherapy_clinics.html , your insurance should cover it because it is usually expensive, and you need to have it on 5 consecutive days, so the clinic should not be too far away.
