Re: Covid Vaccine?

Stefan_K.:
For comparison are there any accounts by Covid-19 survivors about how going through the disease and possibly being intubated has affected their Dupuytren's?

There are plenty of anecdotal stories on FB of people with DD getting Covid and subsequently experiencing new or enhanced DD symptoms during or after the illness.

Re: Covid Vaccine?

1st+2nd shot of Pfizer - no Problem, just a little fever for one day.
3rd shot (booster) - 3-4 days after the booster my inflammation with pain of both hands (Dupuytren) and penis (IPP) is back.
I have that now for 2 months... and Noodles in the hands are growing again.

I don´t believe in a coincidence here because I had NO growing and pain now for almost 8 years (after radiation therapy in Hamburg).
Thinking of a 3rd dose of radiation now and meeting my doctor next week again.
I keep you posted...

Re: Covid Vaccine?

Hi. If I may add my 2 cents worth of opinion: interesting, but considering the number of people who have been a) vaccinated and b) exposed to the virus in one or the other of its variants, with or without symptoms, at this stage most likely not very useful until we get into much bigger numbers where the sum of anecdotal accounts becomes statistically relevant. Wanting to find out what triggered the disease or a flare-up is all too tempting and understandable - most of us have probably been there and most of the time not found real answers. I'd just be careful not to jump to conclusions and see cause/effect correlations when there are so many other possible factors we don't understand. To come to that conclusion we would need to know if the incidence of DD symptoms is actually different in the vaccinated or infected population, all other things being equal. Not saying there cannot be side effects including some we aren't yet aware of, but for me logic would have it that an actual (or at least a severe) Covid-19 (-20, -21 or -22) illness would have a bigger impact on your body and your immune system than a vaccination with a controlled dose of a limited component of the virus. Again, just my opinion based on processing more Covid-19 information for the past two years than I'd ever have thought I'd spend my time on.

Re: Covid Vaccine?

It has been a bit over six years for me, in Hamburg also, supposedly using the same methodology. Are your experiencing evolution in the already treated area of your hand, and if so does your doctor agree to exceed the usual 30 grey limit which you have probably already reached?

Well yes, I agree, but just categorise it as part of the Covid mystery. Some people get it with no symptoms or illness. Some have very mild illness. Some are quite unwell. Some need hospital treatment, even ICU of varying degrees. Some die. Some recover within days. Some take a month or so. Some get a recurrence of Covid related illness without re-infection a few weeks/months later. Some get, pick your mix: brain fog, heart or lung problems, vascular issues, skin rashes, ....and on, and now in our group some get a DD flare.

Re: Covid Vaccine?

Well yes. 8 years of no symptoms and then 3 days after vaccination it starts again is pretty obvious for me.
But of course maybe it would have been even worse with the „real“ virus.

Interesting is also that when this disease occured the first time (about 9 years ago) it for me was also one week after a heavy infection (back then some stomachbacteria)

So for me it has definitely to do with some kind of overreacting immunesytem.

Yes, I‘m in contact with my doctor (Prof. Seegenschmiedt) but he has not seen me yet, will talk with him soon. 8 years ago he said he would add more than 30gy in special cases very locally.
Let’s see what he says.
I also have the problem of IPP (there I got 18gys back then.) That is also more my problem in terms of pain

Also I‘m very sensitive with my hands, because I‘m a professional pianoplayer. So other people would probably not be so freaked out already.

Re: Covid Vaccine?

It may or may not be related with the vaccination. That is very difficult to prove. I myself did not feel any effect on my Dupuytren's after 3x Moderna but everyone s different with regard to Dupuytren's, and probably to Covid, too.

Re: Covid Vaccine?

Over the past 50 years I have had periods of high activity in my hands then it will settle down for a while. I have never been able to identify a trigger. As for the Covid vaccines I have had two doses of AstraZeneca followed by one dose of Pfizer without having any noticeable activity in my Dupuytren or Ledderhose disease.

Re: Covid Vaccine?

I developed Dupuytrens a month after receiving my second dose. At first, I thought it was tendonitis, but I thought it was strange to have non-sagittal tendonitis. I finally saw a doctor after it didn't go away for 8 months, and that's how I found out I have Dupuytrens. My orthopedist said that there's nothing I can do for it. He also did not report it as a side effect of the vaccine.

i know everyone says that it isn't painful, but it can be. The swelling wanes and returns, especially if I go to the gym and don't use workout gloves.
