Anyone Seen Dr. Gottschalk at Emory (Atlanta), or Have Thoughts about Taking a Risk on a Newer Doc?

Hello everyone - As some may recall, I have been on the hunt for a doctor to do a fairly simple NA on my left hand. I had four fingers done on this hand by Dr. Pess in 2013. Three of the fingers are still doing pretty well but the contraction is returning on my ring finger, so I want to get that re-done.

For my last NA, I made the 4 hour trip to see Dr. Pess in NJ. Now I've moved and it is a longer trip, and I really didn't feel like making it again, especially for one finger. But I've been having trouble finding experienced NA docs closer.

I am now in Atlanta for a couple of weeks, and heard that a doctor at Emory, Michael Gottschalk, does NAs. (Different Gottschalk than the RT doctor.) I had a consult with him yesterday and was quite impressed. He has only been practicing for about 5 years, but he did his hand fellowship at NYU, where apparently there is a lot of NA expertise. He said he has done a lot of these procedures, and prefers them to Xiaflex.

So, I now have the procedure scheduled for this Thursday. I feel a little nervous as I generally like to get recommendations from actual people before having a doctor insert sharp objects into my body. :-) But, he did seem knowledgable, and I am a bit reassured as the sites where he willl break the cord are in a fairly low risk area in my palm.

Plus I am really just so darned tired of traveling for this disease! Some of you may recall that I had a complex RT saga, which ended up involving a trip from the DC area to San Diego, followed by three separate trips to Germany when the San Diego RT didn't work out. My NA in NJ was so extensive that the recovery was rocky, so that ended up being about a four day trip. And I've also seen Dr. Eaton in Florida and Dr. Denkler in the SF Bay Area, although for the latter two I was in the area anyway. But just for once I'd like to drive across town to a doctor like a normal person! 😂

Ok, enough complaining... (And actually, the trips to Germany were very enjoyable - I had never been - and I squeezed in some time in Paris on the way back on each trip, which was wonderful.)

Anyway, I would welcome any feedback you have - either if you know of Dr. Gottschalk, or just have thoughts about taking a risk on a doc who is a bit newer to this procedure. Thanks!

Sounds like you will be in good hands. I would trust my instincts and proceed with the appointment. All the best,

Stef

Dear Stefan K,

please note that there are almost 2 "Dr. GOTTSCHALK" in the USA practicing with special knowledge
about the treatment of LEDDERHOSE and DUPUYTREN DISEASE - so anyone should differentiate between

(1)

Dr. Alexander R. Gottschalk who has his RT practice at the UCSF in San Francisco :

https://radonc.ucsf.edu/about/our-team/a...tschalk-md-phd/

He usually treats his patients with orthovoltage or superficial X-rays with radiation beam energies of up to 100 kV.

.... I just recently had a personal interview with him about RADIOTHERAPY options at his institution and elsewhere in The USA.

(2)

Dr. Michael Gottschalk has his Hand Surgery practice at Emory University in Atlanta (GA) USA :

https://providers.emoryhealthcare.org/pr...ttschalk/777137

So under the SAME FAMILY NAME there are TWO OPTIONS - like in DUPUYTREN :

RT for the early stagebsituation and invasive (surgical) procedures for more advanced disease

With gratitude for all affected patients & medical colleagues who help to advance patient care ...

Best regards, Prof. Dr. med. M. Heinrich Seegenschmiedt / E-mail: prof.seegenschmiedt@gmail.com
