New cord near thumb

It’s been a while since posting. I’ve developed a new cord in my palm near my thumb. I don’t recall this being a typical area. It’s a bit painful.

Anyone have experience with this location? Treatments?

Thanks

Ed

Re: New cord near thumb

It's uncommon for a cord by the thumb, but yes does occur. How long since you noticed it, any other signs?

Since its sore a triamcinolone shot might help and stabilise it. If no contracture and sore that might suggest it's still early enough and active so RT could be considered. Unless you've previously had RT in that area, in which case a consultation about 1 series, instead of 2 could be on the cards.

Thanks for the reply. It’s been there for several years but has recently starting getting worse (larger, pain).

I live in California. How do I find a dr that performs RT?

Thanks!

We list a couple on our website https://www.dupuytren-online.info/radiotherapy_clinics.html or you could use the list from DART https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0...LPV6sksVp1rl2Rs

Re: New cord near thumb

I have it with both hands. Attached image shows you a nasty progression. You can see that the cord goes down the thumb as well. Thumb pulled into my index finger and can't open up.

I have had my thumb released once with NA in 2019 (Paris) but I have been locked in fortress Australia for the past two years and can't get back for further treatment until next year. The hand surgeons who do NA in Australia won't touch this. They want surgery and skin grafts.

Can’t see your picture for some reason.

Sorry to hear it. I’ve had my ring finger be and issue for years until I started wearing a glove at night. Since then I’ve been ok until my thumb. It’s in both hands but has recently gotten worse. I’ll watch and see if I need to do anything. This stuff sucks.

Hi Seph, I had my hands successfully done (NA) by David Hunter (www.plasticsurgery.com.au/) a good five years ago.
His approach was quite different from "normal" NA as he uses many more needle pricks as shown in some of the Youtube videos I watched.
Also I much appreciated his accessibility and the possibility to consult by email (I sent photos and history). Useful as I am in Byron Bay. He might be open to have a "look" at your thumb.
Cheers, Dirk
