Dupuytren's nodule without contracture causes pain.

Hi - I developed Dupuytren's in my right hand in 2012 when I was 55. Since then, I use my left hand for my computer mouse. All was well until a month ago, when I discovered a significant nodule had formed in my left palm, causing me pain. No contracture. Yet. It's under my middle finger. It's sharp pain. I have neuropathy and fibromyalgia, and am on a significant amount of neurontin. I now use the mouse without gripping it with my palm.

Does anyone else have significant pain in their palm, like I do? One hand doctor long ago, claimed that my pain was unusual, and that only his mother-in-law complained of pain! I quickly switched doctors.

On my right hand, I tried radiation treatment without success. A very experienced hand doctor told me that surgery was the best option to relieve the contracture and nodules in that hand. But since it wasn't guaranteed to help, and there was a chance of developing nerve pain, I decided against it. Maybe I should reconsider? I have several hard nodules under my ring finger, which is 60 degrees bent in that hand. Especially if my left hand starts getting worse. I wonder how many people have regretted getting surgery?

I did genealogy research because of Dupuytren's. I found a ton of lost relatives. But none of them had Dupuytren's. I definitely wasn't adopted, though. I must be a mutant. Thanks. - Mark

Re: Dupuytren's nodule without contracture causes pain.

Hi Mark. Thanks for the update. I too switched to using my left hand for the computer mouse. I wonder if you are a candidate for NA in the right hand, have you consulted with anyone about that? Not sure about the new pain in the left, sounds like the nodule could be pressing on nerves or tendons? I get twinges in my dominant right hand and ease it with ice and hot water. You could try Voltarol cream with gentle massage and depending where you are CBD oil, or maybe consult about a steroid shot? Best wishes SB

Thanks for the reply. The pain is only there when I am using my hand a lot. Otherwise, it's ok.

I have a lot of nodules on my right hand, with is probably why surgery was suggested instead of NA. But I will about it anyway. Thanks!

Re: Dupuytren's nodule without contracture causes pain.

Hi Mark
I’ve had numerous hand surgery for Dupuytrens. My advice is to see a surgeon whose specialty is hand and upper limb . My experience with PNF or NA was positive breaking the cords within the palm but not so good within the finger if the pip joint is involved. Within the last 6 months I’ve had surgery on both index fingers with 100 % result. My pip was at 45 degrees and now full mobility. The last 2 surgeries were Day Surgery ,under local anaesthetic, now the new drugs reduce the size of the vein capillaries in the hand and so less bleeding .Went into the theatre at 11.20 hrs and went home at 12.30 hours . Stitches removed after 14 days . I need 3 months to gain full mobility and make a closed fist . Use full strength Voltaren Cream 12 hourly pain relief .

Re: Dupuytren's nodule without contracture causes pain.

I too have a nodule close to palm in line with middle finger in left hand that was diagnosed as Dupuytren's. The finger does not draw down but is slightly swollen and will bend only slightly. It gives me pain especially at night causing disturbed sleep with slight pain radiating into index finger. I've wondered if it's really Dupuytren's or something else. I've yet to see a post in line with my symptoms.
