extracorporeal shockwave therapy

Hello. I wondered if anyone here has had this (or knows someone who has) as a treatment for Dupuytren's - shockwave therapy? I found only 1 article which is hypothetical - how it MIGHT be effective, specifically for pain. I am new here and to DD diagnosis (triple D), looking at alternative methods to surgery and injections and getting seriously depressed.

Re: extracorporeal shockwave therapy

Based on the (very limited) experience published so far http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr...s_research.html I wouldn't consider shockwaves to be very effective for treating DD or LD. A small German study at the university of Hanover using high energy shock waves reported pain reduction for some of the DD patients but no significant improvement. The evidence for the usefulness of this treatment seems to be low and two patients from this study reported that it was not well conducted and the treatment had no effect for them. To my knowledge this study was never poublished in a scientific journal but only presented at a German conference for hand surgeons in 2012. No published follow-up since then.

Re: extracorporeal shockwave therapy

Thanks very much, Wolfgang! Yes, I wonder if the treatment is ineffective or if it hasn't been tried enough. Not even sure what 'not conducted well' might mean in this case. But yes, I understand :( Thank you!

Re: extracorporeal shockwave therapy

In this case it meant that both patients said that they were - in their view - not well informed about the results of their treatment and the outcome of the trial. Of course, not being involved myself, this is only hear say.

Yes, this is the problem, hearsay. Sadly. Anyway, thanks very much!

Re: extracorporeal shockwave therapy

Good afternoon. I ran across an article from June 2020 regarding the use of extracorporeal shockwave therapy for DD. it was the summary of a 1 person study on using this treatment for DD. the result was a reduction in the contracture from 30 degrees to 15 degrees. the study only followed the patient out 4 weeks after completion of the 4 week course of shockwave therapy.

I am using this therapy currently for a shoulder problem, and it seems very effective. I have also heard it has been well received for plantar facia issues, and was wondering if there has been any follow up literature or anecdotal experience with using shockwave therapy for DD?
