Contact information for Essen

Hi. I'm trying to contact the Essen hospital to discuss an appointment for radiation and have not been able to get through. The email to christiane.giebels etc. bounced and the hospital has not returned my call. I used the contact info from this website.

Does anyone have better contact information or a better email address that I could use?

Thanks, Diana

Re: Contact information for Essen

Australia Calling,I received RT in Essen. I usually phone a day or so later a.m.-( German time) after I sent the email. Frau Giebels speaks English. I asked to make an appointment with Prof Seegenschmiedt ,who again speaks excellent English. We worked out a tentative time ,then I rang back after confirming flights etc. Just a suggestion .Should you opt for the 7 X3 protocol ( only the one trip to Germany ) discuss this option . Again talk about cost/payment as no credit cards facility, when I was there. They did not seem to worry ,when I paid. The beurocracy is slow and eventually the accounts came and infact they may even send the bill to the US. If I can help further I am happy to .

Re: Contact information for Essen

Diana,

Hi, it's Lori. Question ... are you looking to go to Germany instead of the US? I noticed from an earlier email that you and I shared you were looking into VA. I was beginning to look into the same thing after looking at the quotes for cost. Mu husband has family in Germany and we figured if we were going to spend that kind of money we might as well visit family and let me get treatment at the same time. Would you mind sharing your information as you go along, because I will not be looking to go until late summer or fall if I can get off work?

Thanks,

Lori

Re: Contact information for Essen

Hi Lori. I emailed again this morning and will let you know what I find out. Hopefully the email will go through this time. If not, I'm going to call at 6:00AM my time (3:00PM their time). I'm hoping to get in sometime in July but we shall see.

I just have the feeling that my doctors here will not recommend radiation as they had never heard about it: orthopedist - "to a hammer, every problem is a nail" referring to radiologists. Primary care - "I would not be on the cutting edge of therapy".

The issue that bothers me the most is, if radiation is so effective then why aren't more people aware of it. If this is really a significant way to stop the progression then shouldn't there be more people doing it in the US?

So keep in touch and I will too.

Re: Contact information for Essen with info for Erlangen as well

Lori / Diana,

Good to see this post... I have tried to contact Essen in the past week w/o success, will try again after reading this. There is another option in Germany (Erlangen) that Diane (see my tread page 2 "Radiation Therapy in US (Texas) Cost? X days X treatments?") gave details for.

Lori I'm with you on the money issue. If I have to spend that much here in the US, may as well spend the same or less to go to the authority in Germany. I contacted Oklahoma (listed on this site, Dr. Herman). They were offering 5 days (7 total treatments) for $5-7K for the Dr. and $10-$14K for the hospital. This is pre-insurance rate adjustment cost, but like I said on another post, I'm self insured with a 5K deductable so I ask before I go if I can.

Diana I got the same "nobody" seems to know about RT here in Houston. I went to KSFOrtho (ksfortho.com) in Houston and was diagnosed by Dr. Rosen. They knew right off what I had (I did not know what I had until the visit) but the only advice was to wait for surgery. After doing research my wife found this site. I contacted Dr. Rosen and asked for the treatment here (thinking surely Houston would have someone that did it). They looked into it with a radiation oncology dept Dr. Rosen is in touch with and the answer back was they could not (or would not) do it that I should goto Oklahoma (I told them about OK and sent them this site info as well).

As far as I have found (mainly looking on-line and my Houston / Oklahoma contacts) this is the main place that gives any information about RT and where to get it. Like you I'm not a fan of getting radiation treatment, but I have not found any real negative info yet on RT, unlike some surgery stories I have read. By the way....I'm 38yrs old, in stage N to N1 (no CT in my fingers but have a pit in my palm that is painful and getting deeper)

Thanks Alan

Re: Contact information for Essen

Hi Alan texas, Australia Calling. For Information-"The Pit in your palm" you mention is what happens to some nodules ,when they are at the Involutional Stage and you notice the skin in the palm puckering . The nodule draws in the surrounding skin .If this takes place near the joint- l millimetre of involution can cause several degrees of flexion and contracture. Regards

Re: Contact information for Essen

I still am having no luck getting through to Essen. I emailed 2-3 days ago and have not received a reply. I called 2x this AM and got a busy signal. Does anyone have better information than what is on this website or should I just keep getting up at 6AM to try and call?

Thanks, Diana

Re: Contact information for Essen

Diana, Essen is 9 hours ahead of your time (provided you are in CA). You wouldn't need to call as early as 6 am, 7 or 7:30 am might do as well.

Re: Contact information for Essen

Hi Wolfgang - maybe you can help. I emailed again yesterday (3rd time to Christiane, 1st time to the doctor) and while it has been less than 24 hrs. for this last message, I have not received a response. Yesterday AM when I called at 7:00AM my time (4:00PM German time) I got busy signals 2x.

This morning when I called at 6:00AM my time (3:00PM German time) there was a voice message that answered the phone, not a person. Unfortunately I don't speak German so didn't know what to do. There was a beep at the end of the message so I left a voice mail message with my information. This is tne 2nd time I've done this.

My medical group has denied my request to see a radiologist and although I'm going to appeal, I believe that my Dupuytren's is getting worse and just want to deal with it as soon as it is feasible.

Is there anything else I can do to get through to Essen?

Thanks, Diana
