NA IN SEATTLE - NOT

I just learned that Dr Huang in Seattle was now performing NA and was excited in the possibility of not having to get on a plane to fly to Dr. Kline again in Boise. With all the debates about health care costs, though, I thought it prudent to inquire with Dr. Huangs staff about the costs. $8,000 to $10,000 was the range I was given.

I had two fingers and two steroid injections by Dr. Kline a few months ago for about 1/8 of that! Dr Huangs office defense was the sterility of the hospital that the procedure will be performed in. So - do I pay 8 times more to go to someone who is just starting out performing NA or do I fly to Boise to go to someone who's done thousands of these for a reasonable costs?

Boise all the way. Go back to conventional surgery in Seattle if they need to charge those ridiculous amounts.

Re: NA IN SEATTLE - NOT

$8,000-$10,000 for a relatively simple procedure that takes less than an hour??? That's twice what some are charging for surgery under general anesthesia!! If true, it represents unbelievable/unjustifiable greed.

Re: NA IN SEATTLE - NOT

As I recall, the charges for NA by Dr. Denkler in Larkspur, CA about 20 minutes from SF airport was about $700 for one finger and about $500 for the 2nd finger.
You can contact him by email. His contact information is in the NA drop down menu on the left side of this website. He will personally email you back. Ask how much the charges are. It'll be another comparison. Dr. Denkler has released hundreds of fingers and thumbs. He also used to do the full surgery, but he opts for the less invasive treatment when at all possible.

Re: NA IN SEATTLE - NOT

I had NA on my thumb by a surgeon at the Mayo Clinic. He did X-rays and ultrasound, and had a splint made by a physical therapist, which brought the total cost up to about $3K. I can't imagine anyone charging more than double this amount, unless it's for extensive work on several fingers.

Re: NA IN SEATTLE - NOT

Dr Jerry Huang in Seattle charges $8,000 to $12,000 for NA and "for safety" uses the operating room. His staff says that he got his training at UCLA. I have had NA twice so far (Dr. Eaton, Dr Klein) and this time I will be going to Dr Denkler. I live in Washington State, but will NOT pay the outragious prices that Dr Huang charges. My husband will not fly, so we will be taking the train to Larkspur next spring. Thanks to all who post on this forum....I have learned so much over the years. It saved me from painful surgery.

Re: NA IN SEATTLE - NOT

NA is just about the safest, easiest procedure a hand surgeon can do. Any surgeon who thinks that NA needs to be done in a hospital obviously doesn't have much faith in his ability not cause the kind of complications that require a hospital. Given the price he's asking, it really just sounds like this doc in Seattle just doesn't want to do NA.

Have a good train ride. It can be fun. Sure beats post OP hand therapy :-)

Re: NA IN SEATTLE - NOT

I just read on line that Dr. Donald Lewis in Walnut Creek, CA is doing NA and charges $125 for consultation, $570 for the first finger and $285 for each additional finger.

Sure sounds better than $8000.

Re: NA IN SEATTLE - NOT

Thanks for your posts about Dr. Huang. He's the one I saw a few months ago, who told me to wait till one of the fingers was locked at 30 degrees. He didn't tell me that when he got around to doing my AN, I would be in a hospital OR. Does he completely knock you out, too? Maybe that's what makes it so expensive.

So the next closest one from Olympia WA is in Boise? Sighhhhh... I've forgotten his name but would like to hear more about him. Do you think he's likely to agree to do AN if none of your fingers are locked yet? Are there no hand surgeons in Portland who do AN?

I just can't see waiting. On one of the videos about AN treatment, the doctor (don't know who) said it's more dangerous to do it in the fingers, so it makes sense to me to do it before it starts growing into the fingers.

Re: NA IN SEATTLE - NOT

Listing of NA doctors is on http://www.dupuytren-online.info/NA_list_North_America.html. The other pages on NA are also interesting!
