DC in South Africa
Hi all !
I have had DC in my right hand for about 5 years (I am 55) but with minor contracture,the Specialist I have visited in South Africa recommends surgery if the condition progresses.I have just started getting nodules on my left hand and it is progressing very rapidly.A small nodule has also started on my foot,all bad news,I feel as though "the thing" (from a really old horror movie!) is growing inside me.
I am after any advice I can get from diet, to X ray therapy,enzymes,NA etc

Sounds like you are at the early stages. I suggest that you seek RT (radiation therapy.) That seems to be the ONLY thing that stops the progression and the earlier, the better. Any oncology department can provide non-cancerous radiation therapy. Maybe you could contact various oncology departments near you to see if they would do it. They can consult with other clinics already doing RT to determine a protocol to use. That's how all of the newer RT providers started - consulting with others already doing it.
If there is no clinic that provides that in S. Africa, Germany or USA have clinics if that is possible. Look at the left sidebar under Radiation therapy, Clinics.

Thanks for the input,I have been reading up quite extensively and RT seems like the best option at the moment.
I have also been thinking about diet changes,we eat a fair bit of red meat in SA and a two glasses of red wine a night is a pleasure.
The link between diet/alchohol and DC looks tenuous at best but I guess a healthier diet is generally a good thing.
The red wine would be missed...

Hi Alan Australia Calling. Dont be too quick to give away the pleasures of life. A couple of things have a look at the 50 study from the Erllangen University Hospital .(click- Dupuytren disease on left -go to Literature 4th para.) For extra info go to- Search above and type in alcohol- search topics and answers. Sip a nice red whilst you make up your own mind. Regards

My grandmother, aunt and my mother has DD and alcohol NEVER crossed my grandmother or aunts lips. I on the other hand have a glass of red wine at night. So I am not so sure I buy the alcohol connection.

There is not much evidence for an alcohol connection. Recently publications don't see a connection between (moderate) alcohol consumption and Dupuytren's. Excessive drinking might be different but would have other, much worse effects anyway.

Neither brother has Dupuptren's and both imbibed a lot!
I didn't drink at all for the first 35 years of my life - my personal choice. Since then, I will have an occasional glass of wine. So, I'm the female, non-drinker for 1/2 my life and minimal wine since, and I'm the one who has Dups.
No connection with alcohol in my family.
