Re: Surgery on Jul 18
Don't take advil pre-op with out talking to your physician. It is a nonsteroidal that can increase bleeding. Most physicians want you off the whole class for some days pre-op. Ask your surgeon what is safe to take before. You might also ask for your pain script ahead of time so it is filled and waiting for you. Pain management today recommends takeing meds by the clock for the first couple doses even if you don't think you need them to stay ahead of the pain. Finally keep that hand elevated at all times. Preventing swelling works better than meds. Pain managment is a real priority in medicine today Talk to your doc. You'll do just fine. |

Re: Surgery on Jul 18
I can confirm that hand surgery ( i have had 3) and all different surgeons is very un-painful. I was given a prescription for pain killers each time and hardly needed any of them. The hardest time will be a month or so afterwards when basic healing has occurred but you hand is stiff and might still seem bent or unable to flex and you wonder if you made the right decision. but not to worry, the physical therapy or exercises prescribed by your surgeon will help a lot. |
