Advice please

Hi all, I broke my wrist in February and had a metal plate put in. Over the last few months I have notice a series of 4 or 5 small lumps along the palm of my hand. These are across the palm somewhere between the heart line and the head line on my left palm. I have had some pain, whether due to my broken wrist or not I do not know. The pain is not predictable upon certain actions but sometimes when I am typing or try and put my hands in my pocket or sometimes when I try and straighten my hand. It is like a stabbing cramp in my knuckles. I have some numbness and tingling in my little finger, my ring finger and my middle finger which I presume is due to the broken wrist.

My docter thinks this is Dupuvtren contracture and not connected with my injury. He advises 'wait & see'

I live in the UK

My question is: Do the lumps in the palm of hand always run towards the fingers as mine seem to run across the palm.

Thanks

Mary

Re: Advice please

Hi Mary,

don't know whether you already had a look at http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr...ure_trauma.html . Your accident may well have triggered Dupuytren's. What yiu describe sounds like a series of nodules across your palm. Nodules are the typical first stage of Dupuytren's disease. Typically nodules develop into cords that grow along the affected finger and extend into the palm, too. The growth occasionally can create pain, typically it is fairly painless.

Re: Advice please

Thanks for the reply, I have just read the article and now understand a little more. It does seem like Dupuytren's, I think I will get referred to a specialist sooner rather than later, even if it can't be treated yet, I would like to know if typing aggravates it as I don't know whether to continue working or not.

Re: Advice please

I don't think that typing does much of a difference. I have had Dupuytrens for about 25 years typing along happily, though just some hours, not 8 hours/day.
