Anthem HMO and Xiaflex/NA

Has anyone had luck with Anthem approving either Xiaflex or NA? They will approve my 2nd open hand surgery, but not alternate treatments for much less cost

Re: Anthem HMO and Xiaflex/NA

i am wondering about this too since i may be embarking on the xiaflex journey soon. i do know its something i have to get preapproval for. I also need to find out if they separate the drug and the physician since my hand doctor, Dr. Denkler, is out of network for Anthem. I am hoping the drug is considered separately. Otherwise, its all out of pocket. rakuku

In July 2006 I had NA with Dr. Denkler... at that time, I paid in cash and the Dr. submitted a claim to my Anthem PPO who reimbursed most of the amount...perhaps its different with Anthem HMO?

I don't know what the coverage is for Xiaflex.

In March 2010 I had NA with Dr. Eaton...by then I had Medicare and Anthem PPO...NA was fully covered.

Re: Anthem HMO and Xiaflex/NA

I too had NA with Dr. D nearly 4 years ago on pinky and it has stayed pretty straight - holding up at about 20 degrees and the best it ever was was 17. but now i am getting nodules in various places and some are tender. got him to do some cortisone recently which helps. he thinks he can give me some xiaflex in both the pinky and the nodules even though the recommended use is for contracted cords and not nodules. he thinks it can help with the nodules too. you know dr. D, always looking for better ways. And yeah, Anthem reimbursed me for part way back then but my policy is different now and has a high deductable so they probably won't pay much, if anything. guess i will just call them up and start dealing with it. no rush as the contracture is pretty stable but the nodules seem to be multiplying. still wondering if radiation is the better option here. rakuku

Re: Anthem HMO and Xiaflex/NA

Rakuku, Dr. Denkler did NA for me almost 2 years ago. The procedure is Medicare approved. Medicare paid and Anthem BC PPO paid the rest.
I would think you can use the fact that it is a Medicare approved procedure as justification for Anthem. It is worth having in your arsenal when you deal with Anthem BC.

Good luck.
