SteveB:
Mieke,

From my research into dehydration it appears that to fully rehydrate the body after a prolonged period of dehydration it takes about 2 - 3 months(!) I have been drinking the required water now for 2 weeks and have noticed considerable improvement but am interested to see how my body will be functioning once it has been fully rehydrated in another month or two. Essentially I am just saying, rehydrating takes time so stick with it. Also, don't drink too much (I understand that about 2 -3 litres per day is ok) as too much water has its own problems.

Best,

Steve

Hi Steve, I know it's been many years since this discussion started, but am wondering what your results were from drinking water, how it impacted the progression of your dupuytrens? I started drinking about 80 ounces of water per day over the past two week and have noticed the pain I was experiencing in my arms and legs have calmed down quite a bit and the tightness in my hands seems to have improved as well. I plan to continue drinking every day to see how this might help. I would love to know your experience.

I developed a cord in my right hand going to my fifth finger. It went away after radiation. It developed after I saw the hand surgeon. It took a while after I saw him to research Dupuytren's and find a Radiation Oncologist. It's been two year now and it's not come back.

Hi! I see it's been several years since you have had radiation. I am wondering if you might update me on how your Dupuytren's has been since the RT? I am on the verge to seeking treatment as well. Thanks!

Re: Has anyone ever seen a rheumatologist for Dupuytren's?

I was actually seeing a rheumatologist for a short period for what had been misdiagnosed as Rheumatoid Arthritis. My DD had developed quited uniquely as it turns out. It was over the last three or four years that I've been consistently developing nodules in my left hand. The initial incident that had me see a rheumatologist in the first place was a swelling and subsequent contracture of the left forefinger at the DIP joint. Finally in February this year during a routine visit, after seeing the development of the nodules and now cords in my palm, he had no doubt it was DD and referred me to a hand surgeon who has confirmed the diagnoses. Even though a rheumatologist can quite possibly diagnose Dupuytren's, I would move on to a hand specialist for treatment and most definitely one very familiar with the disease.

How advanced was your Dupuytren's when you had the RT? I have several nodules and cords but very minor contracture at this point. I've read that RT is only effective if you do it in the early stage of the disease.
