lumps
About a year or so ago my dc started out as just a small pea size lump at the base of my pinky finger. Since then, a small lump has formed at the base, or actually towards the palm, of each finger. None of them have caused any pain until a fairly new lump formed, which is in the center of my hand. This lump hurts! There is kind of a constant "low pain" all the time, and if I bump it, it really, really hurts. Has anybody else experienced significant pain in the area where their lumps are? If so, have you found anything that helps? I was told the "lumps" are supposed to be painless.

lumps
I found out that not all hand lumps are the same. I had a pea sized lump about an inch below my middle finger that hurt when I bumped it. I had noticed the other bumps over the last year- but because they didn't hurt, I didn't rush to a doctor. So in the course of having my bigger lump looked at (it is a gangleon cyst)I found out I had Dupuytren's in both hands.

Discomfort
I have no pain or discomfort with the contracture in my fingers but about a year ago nodules formed on the tendon linking my thumb and pointing finger. The nodules (two of them) are just at the base of the thumb. Yes they do hurt. I'm conscious of a discomfort all the time.

pain in the lumps
The lumps can be painless or tender I have pain if I lift things like a bucket of water. I have it in both hands and my pinky and finger next to it lock up and it hurts to unkinkg them but once they are unbent they are fine. I will eventually have to get shots to help them and finally surgery when it goes to far as to be a deformity
If you are not aware Dupuytren's is hereditary but can be caused by long term use of anti-seizure drugs which is my case

dupuytrens
I would get any lumps at the base of the fingers checked out immediately....my mom has dupuytrens....it is horrible..she had the surgery 4 years ago and now it is back again....lucky me i just found a pea-sized lump at the base of my pinky finger so i think i might be getting it too...i ma going to the surgoen next week to get that checked along with all the other hand problems that i have....my mom says that wearing a split on her hand helps....especially good for the fingers that are already starting to contract....helps to keep them straight.

Get NA, not surgery. You can get info on this web site.

Pain
Donna, Most people do not have pain from DD. Do you have something else involved?
You basically have two choices: 1) Take your favorite pain medication. 2) Just deal with it and realize that there are much worse afflictions.
Good luck
